If everyone loses before I lose do I win the game?

Asked by dragonstryke58 8 years ago

In a 4-man pod of Commander, the player before me had a Hive Mind and Exploration out and six lands (tapped out to play Hive Mind).

There was some shenanigans that happened due to me having a Waste Not already on the field and playing Dark Deal...but any way it ended up that he cast Summoner's Pact as a way for him to win the game.

Since we all (4 players) get copies of it we all have to pay the 2GG on our upkeep or lose the game, and he was the only green player among us and able to pay the cost.

Anyway, if I cast Smallpox, Hive Mind would make a copy for each other player, forcing us to sacrifice 1 land for each Smallpox that resolved (4 lands). Since no one would be able to pay the cost any more, would i win since on the player before me's turn, there would be no one else in the game? The player who cast the pact is maintaining it would be a draw since I wouldn't be able to pay the cost on my upkeep either.

Assuming that the Summoner's Pact was cast during your turn, then, yes, you win the game because everyone would be dead before you would be.

The game ends when there is only one player or one team remaining (or when an effect ends the game). Once all of your opponents lose, the game is over. You don't continue playing by yourself.

Thanks! I thought it was odd that I would lose due to an effect on my turn if I am the only person in the game.
