Stone_Munkee if you put brackets around a term and then parenthesis around the link you'll get it nicely formatted to click.

This might encourage me to get into Modern, so long as the price isn't jacked up by retailers due to card quality.

I'm thinking that this deck will be some sort of jank Affinity or Splinter Twin just because they're 1 of the more cheaper Modern archetypes

is this the rumored fetch reprint we've all been hearing about?

They'll probably be 50-60% unplayable, but from what I understand that's how most event decks are for standard. If not card shops will fuck us hard on prices like they always do.

Hopefully they'll be fun and interesting decks, but probably based on tier 1.5 or tier 2 archetypes. Gotta love seeing Modern get more love.

I'm predicting Soul Sisters, some jank affinity like DukeNicky said, maybe Merfolk, BW Tokens is a possibility. It would be really interesting if they did a budget Jund list or something similar. I doubt we'll see combo, that's not very interesting and Wizards will probably want to keep it somewhat simple to understand.

I was just about to post about this lol I'm interested to see what they build. I'm inclined to agree with EvenDryke and guess that it'll probably be a shit deck, but all of those event decks are not very good unless you modify them

meecht says... #10

I could see maybe a single fetch land and/or shockland in the deck to warrant the price.

HarbingerJK says... #11

I doubt that they'll put a fetchland in there, they're just too expensive. Shockland on the other hand I could see in there

EvenDryke says... #12

I'm thinking one fetch each, but then again that'll be half of the $75 right there.

Also, who else will shit bricks if Tarmogoyf sees another reprint in this?

Thing is the event decks aren't meant to very good, defining good as PTQ/GP/PT quality. They're meant to take to a FNM and do well, if you have enough enough skill, maybe win. They should provide a solid core for a tier 1 deck. These are just another step in getting new players into Modern. I mean for example, I could see G/R Tron deck without the eldrazi, maybe 1 Wurmcoil Engine and 1 Karn Liberated , no Grove of the Burnwillows but the rest of the deck intact and decent filler for the missing pieces.

Wizards is trying to get more people into Modern. One of the biggest hurdles of getting into it is the land base which requires 4 copies of at least one fetchland, which comes to almost $200.

I would love that, with some nice new art for each of the tron lands. Not outside of the realm of possibility too.

I could also see them going UTron since more casual players tend to be drawn to it over GR Tron, and it's a lot cheaper to build.

Budget versions of competitive decks would be the best way to get new players in I think.

meecht it's arguable, fetches aren't needed for a lot of decks. junk for example using Knight of the Reliquary , while using fetches, can get away without using them. 3 colors require shocks though, not going to say different there, but fetches aren't always a requirement. Though U/W/R needs fetches to get that triple U for Cryptic Command online though. Jund probably doesn't need them except to grow goyf and abuse DRS effciently. But both can be accomplished with Tectonic Edge and discarding land with lili. I think I could run pod without the fetches.

People run them because they are the best option, but the need is not always there for them, the downside with them doesn't always exist. Hence they are the best option.

FYI:

Also includes a 15-card sideboard, strategy guide, Spindown life counter, 80 exclusive card sleeves, 5 double-sided tokens, and a deck box.

So with that in mind about the tokens, this might be B/W Tokens, G/R Tron, U Tron or ???

January 9, 2014 2:32 p.m.

meecht says... #19

The tokens may not be specific to the deck. Five double-sided cards could mean there are 10 different creature tokens represented so they can be used in a variety of matches.

meecht proof where that has happened before, afaik, all tokens included in supplemental material have been usable by that material directly. I could be wrong though.

I messaged one of the people who run my LGS last night after I saw the announcment, and asked what they will sell them at knowing what is avalible (the fact there is a deck, the msrp) he said there shop will always sell event decks at msrp. I've already reserved 1 lol, and I said I may end up getting another if I like the list.

Just because it says 5 2-sided tokens doesn't mean they're different. They could all be the same token 2 tokens. I would put my money on BW Tokens, you get Sorin Vampire Tokens, Spirit Tokens, Soldier Tokens, maybe human tokens and sorin emblems. The deck is cheap and has things already reprinted in other duel decks. Its fairly easy to pilot and can have fetches or go with out.
