What to play, coming from modern to legacy

Legacy forum

I have ended up with two top tier modern decks, pod and tarmo-twin, so I've decided to trade my tarmo twin deck and work towards building a legacy deck!

I'm very interested in UW miracles and elves. I know these are two very different decks, but how do you guys like these?

Thanks for all your input!

I am open to most decks though, my budget is not very limited, so tell me what your favorite deck is!

For legacy, I personally play goblins, because #budget, but if I were to be able to pick any deck, I'd go with Dave McDarby's Pernicious Walkers deck. Pernicious Deed doesn't say the word "planeswalker", so basically it's a one sided board wipe, and the deck is fantastic.

Out of the two that you have picked, though, I am personally more of a fan of Elves, because I'm not really fond of sitting around waiting for people to top Counterbalance me every turn. I like explosive action in legacy, and durdle till Entreat the Angels doesn't really do it for me.

UW Miracles is probably the better deck of the two, however.

Being a combo player I'm always a fan of dredge. (Don't have money for Lion's Eye Diamond s though so I play manaless.)

Oops all spells and Sneak and show seem like two of the stronger decks in the format as far as consistency. If I could pick a deck to play it would be either of those.

As far as what you have mentioned I'd go with Elves but Miracles puts up better numbers.

I've played legacy for a few years and the format is really harsh to mistakes so I would pick a deck that forces you to learn the format. Miracles is a tough deck to pilot but I think it's very rewarding and it's a strong deck. I personally don't think that elves is a good deck but I play nic-fit so what do I know. I would recommend playing on cockatrice or untap to test different decks out and i can always play you so that you can test them out

I like elves better, mostly because I like combo decks and dislike control. Miracles is a monster to deal with, and does pretty well through heavy attrition and lockdown. Both are super viable I think, as is any form of delver.

So after hearing comments and talking to friends, I am deciding between UW Miracles and RUG Delver/ Canadian threshold.

Once again very two different decks. I like that with miracles I can trade my goyfs for lands lol, but threshold seems pretty fun and fast to play with. Plus control can be tiresome sometimes.

Threshold Is a solid deck that is good against a bunch of combo and unfair decks so that's a plus. It's kind of boring to play though as it's strategy is incredibly linear but it's sideboard is fun with the addition of dack fayden. It's also pretty consistant and has a lot of staples that can be switched to other decks from legacy and some in modern also

Well add this to consideration: We are moving into a standard set with playability being prioritized over flavor and one of the wedges is going to be RUG and one is going to be American, chances are something legacy worthy will be printed in this next block since the last set to prioritize playability was INN.

Do not trade away your Tarmogoyf s. If you're planning on dipping into Legacy, they're just used in too many decks. Yeah, you may get some Underground Sea s, but then you'll be like "Well, poop, now I want to play Shardless BUG or RUG Delver."

Do you guys think a UW stoneblade build is viable? I could pull it off much quicker without underground seas

I don't see what you gain by not playing a third color in Stoneblade. There's a lot to be added by playing Esper, USA, or Bant. The main thing is Deathrite Shaman leads to absurd plays. You also get more removal by playing a third color.

I think U/W is fine if you want to just start building a Legacy deck to jump into the format, but you'll eventually want a third color (most likely black).

Here's a questions for you.... what's the Legacy meta in your area? That can make a huge difference in what you can play. If it leans towards more aggro / fair decks, then play combo. If it leans towards more combo / unfair decks, then run with control. If it's more control, then aggro it out.

There are so many decks out there that are fun to play. Personally, I have an inner Timmy so Reanimator is a lot of fun for me as I get to play with big fatties all day long.

But I would agree to keep your goyfs.

You've already got the Goyfs and probably the fetches, RUG Delver/Canadian Thresh seems like a winner.

I can tell you that Delver and Miracles are both fairly intricate decks to play.

Personally, I have found Miracles the more rewarding deck to play.
