Is the minotaur in Boros Charm looking back over his left shoulder, or his right?

That me, PhotogenicParasympathetic, asking the questions that matter.

Over his right, I think. We're seeing the front side of the minotaur, where you usually put your necklace-type things.

Or maybe he is so beefy, that that entire thing is his left arm, and he is looking forwards...

He's definitely looking over his back shoulder, the picture is from behind him.

Lol, it's definitely not his back. We are shown his chest; the character's head is looking over his right shoulder. You can clearly see both sets of spaulders on his shoulders, the belt buckle on his belt, and the boros charm itself is on a chain and hanging from his neck.

Definitely right shoulder. Really awkward angle.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Ok, Livingham, andymaul123 has given his points for the Mini-Taur looking over his right shoulder. What are your points for him looking over his left?

Here is a full-art rendition of the card. Although it's not an official Magic full art, it paints (lol, pun) a decent picture as to why it looks like he is looking over his right shoulder.

I always thought he was looking over his left shoulder, and the view was from behind. Looking at the full art, though, I vote right shoulder, from the front. Check out the bottom left corner, where his thumb is at the front of his hand. Unless Minotaurs have weird hand structure, that's impossible from behind.

But flipping back to the card art, I still see it as left shoulder, from the back. I blame Zoltan Boros.

If he is indeed looking over his left shoulder, why would he have his pendant hanging on his back? The chain would be choking/uncomfortable on his neck. Additionally, the buckle for the leather strap would be rather hard to fasten/undo. (Though I don't know how flexible minotaurs are).

The thing is,Wizards rarely make a card where the character is seen from behind. I can't remember a single card where the main character is seen from behind.

Furthermore, as many pointed out, the necklace should logically hang on your chest. Also, he has this belt over his chest. If this was his bag, we would see something be attached to it. It's on his back.

Definitely right shoulder. Like many have pointed out, the sigil would be in the front.

I think what throws you off is how far his head is turned. If you only look at that, you could think it needs to be from behind because that way his head wouldnt be turned as far.

But then the pendant and buckle wouldnt make sense, so I think it's his right shoulder.

The only argument I've seen so far is that you can see a buckle and a signet, what's to stop the minotaur from having a buckle and signet on each side? Or what if boros traditionally wear them in their back? I feel like you guys are just making assumptions and not considering other possibilities.

You are really making this hard for me...

Blaze Commando, AT LEAST wears a Boros mark on the front. Same as Boros Battleshaper. Notice how he has a belt from the left shoulder, down under right arm. This is like the minotaur on Boros Charm.

Fanatic of Mogis at least has a necklase on front.

Minotaur Explorer, here, you can see a "shoulder-belt" on the left side/front of her, but on the back she wears all kinds of weapons. If Boros Charm was the back, there MIGHT have been some weapons attached to the belt.

Ondu Champion, weapons on the back.

Ordruun Veteran, this guy just have a double "shoulder-belt", and looks quite like the Charm.

This Kazuul Warlord, this Minotaur Warrior, and this Raka Disciple is how a minotaur look from the back. Only 3 cards out of the 54 minotaurs are depicted from the back. It doesn't seem like they have the buckle on the back.

At last, do you see the buckle on the "shoulder-belt"? How would you open a buckle on your back? It's pretty though.

Therefore, I conclude, that Boros Charm is seen from the front.

The minotaurs you used as examples from the back don't have upper armor on so they don't help the argument at all. Every card you linked with a boros emblem only shows their front so you can't assume they're not sportimf the emblem on both sides of their body. The strap you're referencing is on both arms and would probably look almost the same on either side and the buckle might be for decoration or it might not even be a buckle and just a scrap of metal. Good arguments but still nothing proven.

Also I just saw your comment about the buckle on the shoulder armor, it's more of a strap which would be a lot easier to maneuver and often armor takes someone to help put it on because of how complex it is. Also that shoulder strap proves it's his back if anything considering it would be incredibly impractical to have an essential strap for your armor in one of the most targeted places of your body, one slash would take out a huge portion of armor.
