Which Sun Wins?

Deck Help forum

I've decided I really like Azorius control for pioneer and want to build it. I've been looking at lots of builds and one thing I'm torn on is the back-up win condition. Teferi, Hero of Dominaria is my primary one, with Castle Ardenvale being an option too. It seems the best alternate options are either Approach of the Second Sun or Elspeth, Sun's Champion .

Both cards have their pros and cons, but from what I've seen Elspeth is the more popular choice, however Approach is a personal favourite card of mine. I intend to build this deck to be as competitive as possible so I would love a discussion on which card of these two is the optimal one, based on the deck's strategy and flow, as well as the current meta of the format.

I would look at what cards are being played that can hate on each of your options. The option with the fewest.options to counter it might be the best choice. But the land seems super slow and doesn't seem like you'd be able to win fast enough a control finisher should win you the game in a few turns.

Lol I'm sure Suns_Champion revelled in that moment... granted it probably happens more often for him lol. Last Laugh doesn't fit in many EDH decks...

Obviously Approach of the Second Sun . Run 4 copies of those and a lot of card draw and you can win the game quite easily. Your opponents will never know when you will play your second one..........especially when paired with Teferi, Time Raveler to stop opposing counterspells.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion could also be another control option to look at since it draws cards, counters spells, and is a great finisher.

Definitely do not run 4 Approach. You will absolutely get stomped when you draw 2 of those and all you want is a removal spell, lol. If you play approach, only play 1-2.

But my vote is actually for Elspeth, it’s a great finisher, and couples as a pseudo- board wipe.
