Muldrotha Viability? Competitive?

Hey all,

I am thinking about making a new deck and kinda stuck on what to build. I was looking into The Gitrog Monster but it seems too competitive and graveyard focused for me because I already play Karador, Ghost Chieftain combo. I am also bouncing around the idea of building a Grand Arbiter Augustin IV stax deck, but I'm not sure I'm ready to lose that many friends so quickly. Then I remembered Muldrotha, the Gravetide and thought about how cool of a build around me card it could be.

Has anybody played with or against Muldrotha yet? What kind of combos or strategies can it pull off? Is Muldrotha stax a thing? What is its general power level, among the top tier or a bit lower? I mainly ask because it's a relatively new card and I'm just looking for some guidance. Any info you have on her would be great. Thanks!

A Muldrotha Stax deck is dominating our FLGS...so yeah - it's competitive :)

He uses Zuran Orb to gain stupid amounts of life and Mindslicer to force us to discard our hands. Basically tons of graveyard recursion ftw - I'm sure there are many Muldrotha decks out there that you can get ideas from.

hey. i only play commander format and have 16 edh-decks currently. some of them more competitive, some less competitive. within my 16 decks there is a muldrotha list too.

--> Overwhelming Recursion

I tried to keep the list unique with most cards beeing a permanent. it is not really competitive as it is slow, but can win games really well and makes a lot of fun.

It depends on what parameters you set for competitive. Competitive enough to do major work in most shops and against pretty much anything you come across regularly? Sure, absolutely. Competitive in COMPETITIVE EDH? Not really. Sultai's got an embarrassment of riches when it comes to commanders and a CMC of 6 is pretty steep. In addition, winning through recurring permanents is something I'd consider to be incredibly roundabout. For those unfamiliar with cEDH, it's often difficult to imagine just how different the format can feel like because of how inbred the meta can be.

In reality, Muldrotha doesn't see much use among players at the very highest levels of play. I've heard of some people running her in the 99 of Tasigur for some very specific reasons tho. The general is perfectly fine if you're not playing against literal cEDH net decks tho.

Oh, and I'm one of the rare souls who plays Grand Arbiter combo rather than stax in EDH, so if you do decide to go down that rabbit hole AND prioritize combo over stax, I'm here.

I am currently in second place on our play groups leaderbaords (18 people)

Muldrotha is a beast. it just depends on how well you can use the colors to your advantage. Im running Muldrotha Mill and i have had multiple games where i have milled everyone at the table out by turn 4 (at the same time)

it has got tot he point where i almost dont want to play it because people just groan when i pull out the deck box.
