Mystic Remora or Mind Stone?

Commander Deck Help forum

I have a copy of Clout of the Dominus in my Thraximundar EDH deck, but I am planning to replace it with either Mystic Remora or Mind Stone, so I wish to ask everyone here which card that they prefer.

Both cards have the ability to sacrifice themselves, which works with the theme of that deck, but one provides card advantage, while the other provides mana, which is something that the deck definitely needs, given its high mana curve.

What does everyone else say about this? Which of those two cards should replace Clout of the Dominus?

In that deck Mind Stone is a better choice. As a matter of fact I would say that you are desperately missing mana ramp just period. Unless I am missing something you have 6 total sources of ramp in a deck with a sky high average MV. Speaking of the average MV, if you are in a meta where the linked deck would thrive, then Mystic Remora is significantly worse than in faster metas. Mystic Remora is great when doing a Ancestral Recall impression because you dropped it on turn 1-2 and it drew you a card on each opponent's turn. it is significantly worse when it is a Weave Fate because you paid the upkeep twice and people just didn't cast many non-creature spells.

Gidgetimer, I initially built that deck when EDH was still a new format, which I imagine most players can tell, merely by looking at it, but I have made numerous changes to it, over time, most notably with lowering it mana curve and adding additional sources of mana.

That is fine, and sorry if you took offence or felt you needed to defend the deck because I called the mana curve sky high. We have been over this before that the environments you and I play EDH in seem to be vastly different.

This doesn't change the fact that where Mystic Remora is good and this deck would thrive are vastly different environments. As a matter of fact, in most playgroups Rhystic Study is just a better card than Remora. Where Remora shines is in metas where people are casting 1-2 non creature spells each turn for the first 3 turns. Metas where games are ending (or having a lock established) turn 3-5. Personally I have 1 deck that runs Remora because I can only rarely find a group wanting/willing to play quite that fast.

Gidgetimer, I was not at all offended by your post; a forum online cannot convey tone of voice or facial expressions, and I definitely agree that Mind Stone is the preferable card in this situation.
