Is mana ramp needed?

Commander Deck Help forum

I was looking for advice on a new EDH deck I made recenty God of the Angels. It has a deck with Karametra, God of Harvests at the helm, and I added mana ramp spells in the mainboard. However, I am not sure if they are needed since my general does the same effect, but I realize it is creature dependent. So I am not sure if I should drop the mana ramp spells for more creatures and/or more support spells. Any other advice is appreciated as well. Thanks

Easiest solution is to add mana dorks, instead of Selesnya Signet and explosive vegetation.

Almost all EDH decks benefit from acceleration. Ideally, especially if you're playing green, you'll want to diversify your acceleration a bit. A combination of land seek, artifact ramp, and mana dorks makes your boardstate less susceptible to boardwipes. What happens if all you've been doing is pulling out the lands form your deck and someone resolves an Armageddon? Yeah...

Mana ramp can be used to recover from losses, not just to accelerate. I run loads of ramp in my stax commander because I often end up wiping my own board.

I would suggest Gaea's Cradle for your deck.

ramp is always imporant. With karametra you'll be having a lot of ramp by the end of the game, so make sure you run some mana sinks for the late game.

@JuicyPVP Deck costs under $300 and you're suggesting Gaea's Cradle? Hmmm... Seems fair.

LOL. :D Gotta start that reserve list collection at some point, right? (I also suggest strip mine, tec edge, and wasteland to stop other peoples cradles/cabal coffers/serra sanctums and the like, but if budget is an issue then we will have to do without). After looking at the deck more closely I do seriously suggest using any green or white fetch Wooded Foothills Misty Rainforest etc. Any fetch that can help thin your deck of those lands. You reply: "But Juicy! My commander needs the lands in the deck for when I cast creatures." To which I respond "How many games have you cast 30 creatures?"

Also, Omnath, Locus of Mana is a great "mana dump".

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will be keeping the mana ramp in the deck. Thankfully the group I play with is there more to have fun and socialize than be super competitive. So hopefully I will not run into too many Armageddon situations.
