Comment and 2 Questions.

Comment: I think that you should add mtggoldfish.com/metagame/modern/full#paper to the resources section.

Question 1: is eternal command not a thing anymore?
Question 2: What is the difference between hatebears, death and taxes, and dead guy ale?

No need for a pod primer, it was banned.

Delver needs to be completely re-done now as well :(

Delver will disappear to T2 and start running counterspells again. Pod is completely gone.

Honestly I have no motivation to play in a meta where GB/x is the only real midrange deck. The format has gone to where it was pre khans but lost a deck that formed an important part of the meta.

It sounds utterly dull, and honestly if this is how wizards reacts to innovation then screw 'em.

Well there's always Naya Zoo too and maybe a little bit of dredge-aggro?

Naya Zoo is kinda aggro-y.

GGT will probably fit into GB/x,

The midrange version isn't half bad honestly. It also calls for Goyf though so really is play goyf or don't play. Other than that Jeskai midrange might do okay

Jeskai control will probably come back a bit.

I just find it utterly unchallenging. Modern has been here before. We've just gone backwards.

It was more interesting last time though.

At least there was a 4 color midrange deck (lingering Jund)

Sadly Modern needed the banning, said by Pod player. Every new set brought new tools for pod to play with an ultimately become better to the point where eventually R&D will struggle to produce good creatures in POD colours. Sad but needed.

So ban Siege Rhino. Don't ban the enabler, ban the other bits that people care about less.

Dont crush the deck into the dust - just remove some of their more potent threats.

And Goyf is once again central to the format. Lame.

I'd have liked to see a DRS unbanning to counter that. I get that it might have made Junk too powerful, but it was such a fun card. :c

I know. This has really fucked the format in a big way.

January 19, 2015 12:36 p.m.

I have to agree with the Pod banning, even though I really liked playing with and against the deck. Banning Siege Rhino and other cards from the deck would work, but Wizards would have to ban every good creature printed in those colors to keep it in check, and this way causes fewer bans

I agree with the Pod ban, but it pushes so much more towards "'Goyf or bust". That is possibly my biggest problem with the format right now. Tarmogoyf is just too good in almost any green deck, and even in the other decks, it's often right to splash for it. It's very limiting.

ChiefBell says... #17

Bingo. It narrows the number of playable midrange decks. That's a problem.

January 19, 2015 2:27 p.m.

I feel that Naya will rise in popularity. Zoo was the aggro deck that combined a relative lack of speed (compared to Affinity) to a relative lack of lategame power (compared to Delver). Now, it has time to shine, and I think it will shift to a more midrange style.

It still plays %*&@ing goyfs.

January 19, 2015 2:39 p.m.

That's true. You could always play Jeskai Geist of Saint Traft with Blade Splicer and the like, which has always been a reasonable midrange deck.

ChiefBell I feel it is time to add my lingering deck to this list. May I?

Link it here and we can discuss.

I'm more upset with the banning of Dig Through Time than anything else. The card is really good to be sure, but I don't think that it has nearly the power that Treasure Cruise has. Without cruise, U/R delver decks are going to be hurt significantly, and I don't think that dig could replace cruise. Dig was a great help to midrange/control decks that ran blue, and was especially good for the grixis control decks. I'm an american/jeskai player, and it was a sweet replacement for my Sphinx's Revelation. Now that dig is gone, I'm gonna have to go back to running a large amount of lands to fit revelation in, and grixis control will not have the card draw that it needs to survive in the meta. I think that this ban has undone the progress modern has made. Scapeshift will be hurt a lot, and American control will look very similar to what it was back in 2013, cause now nothing from the last few sets are worth running (save fetchlands). The banning of Birthing Pod will also hurt the format significantly, as now (as people above said) the only midrange decks will be BGx. I love the modern format because it is ever-changing but still feels somewhat eternal. Decks like pod that felt like they were a part of modern are now gone, and the progress that wizards have made has been destroyed. I'm very sad, and I will be playing my friend's pod deck until the 23rd.

Modern Mardu - Barebones (Midrange) I believe the sideboard guide is in progress and there may be a few cards noteable that I have forgotten but most of that will change for all decks as the meta moves forward anyways. It plays like a mixture of BG/x and Deadguy Ale

January 19, 2015 2:49 p.m.

Looks like I can scrap that Pod primer.
