Learning Matchups —April 12, 2018

Went 2-1-1. First match, drew about UB control due to time; confident I would've won g3, my sideboard was better than his. Same UB player I played last week. M2 was against a new player with standard commons, won in 2. M3 against rainbow tron, won in 3 -- matchup seems fairly bad but he drew poorly. M4 against Bogles, and there's almost literally nothing I can do unless I can Electrickery t2 and they didn't enchant the creature yet. Very frustrating, and reinforces my hatred for linear, non-interactive decks. Might run a Curfew next time.

You can easily shave a land or 2 with how low costed your stuff is on average.

I would personally drop the Deprives to either Power Sink or Prohibit as both are very versatile cards that staunch combo decks & help in counter wars. Good tempo.

Lastly, consider dropping 1 Journey for 1 Oblivion Ring.

I've played the deck in both 21 and 22 land builds, and it could be placebo, but I believe 23 suits me best. With 3 colors and the need to include artifact lands, and the fact that we want to make at minimum our first five land drops, I like having the extras. I very rarely find myself wanting LESS lands when I play, versus more, and even when I have extras, Brainstorm lets me shuffle them away. I could probably trade out Mulldrifter for other, cheaper cards like Thraben Inspector or Kor Skyfisher and cut to 21

I originally had Prohibit, but I have a top-heavy meta where it performed poorly. I love the idea of Power Sink for the Inside Out and Burn matchups, though, which are some of our worst. I'll give it a shot in testing.

Regarding Oblivion Ring, I think the only enchantment we really want to remove (at least, in my local meta) is Pestilence. I could see an argument for having enchantment hate MB, but would probably use a singleton Dispeller's Capsule since it can be fetched. Then again, we don't lose much with a single O-Ring... Hmmm. Are there other enchantments we need to worry about that get played?

Other Journeys, Other O Rings, Oubliette are very common to see. Boros and white decks tend to run Journey/O Ring, & Oubliette in MBC.

Also O ring deals with Artifacts + creatures too :0

It's a lame way of dealing with Rancor :s But hhmm ok about the lands. I guess I just don't like 23 but if it works it works! :)

Valid points. I think rather than MB an o-ring, I'm going to shuffle my SB a bit for more enchantment hate!
