Looks like there's some benefit to being a night owl.

Being a religious Standard player has limited my own drafting experience quite a bit. Definitely backing up Supersun's comment about sparse removal, which I already tend to overvalue in the first place (not that BREAD allows much wiggle-room there).

About 1.5 hours to go before first pick! (Kaley beat me to it)

wait is this site by eastern time? so when kaley meant 90 min, that was 3 in the morning eastern time? which means midnight for cali and only 6ish minutes until the pack?

Pack will be up momentarily.

Don't tag the card names!

At least, not in the comments. Update tags seem to be ok.

Out of this pack, I see three that I'd personally consider; Far / Away , Beetleform Mage , and Fluxcharger . Of them, I'd pick Far / Away , as it's removal and lends the best flexibility colorwise.

How about you guys?

June 23, 2013 3:14 a.m.

Far / Away is pretty amazing when it comes to removal/tempo; however there are a lot of other good blue cards (and an orzhov guildgate) that we'll be passing if we take Far / Away so I'd be a little concerned about not getting passed good u/b cards in pack 2. Don't think that's super relevant though. Ready // Willing seems pretty good, but I'm not sure how great it is in a Triple DGM meta.

My vote goes to Far / Away.

Also would it be possible to put them in the decklist for future reference? seems like it'd be easier to visualize and to sort and stuff.

Why can't we tag cards?

June 23, 2013 3:16 a.m.

By "for future reference" I mean for the other packs we pick, not that I want to keep a record lol.

@TheHorse - Apparently even though we're private, determined people can see mentions of tagged cards on said card's page.

@KrazyCaley - Don't think I can edit those tags without help of a higher power. Also, updates being okay would defeat an idea I had of just tagging everything DGM in one. Suppose I can just spam a comment of it here and be done with that concern.

@TheHorse - Another potential issue that was going on was concern over people watching our deck's "color wheels" update. I think I can get away with tossing picks in the Sideboard. Could also put current pack in the maybeboard, to help with that visualizing.

My top three from this pack would be Ready // Willing, Beetleform Mage, Far // Away or Runner's Bane. Fluxcharger isn't bad, but I've never been overly impressed with it.

I like Ready // Willing here because either half of it can be a total game changer, and if we decided to go into Junk colours, fusing it is usually enough to just end the game.

+1 Ready // Willing

Beetleform mage would probably be my second pick. I'm never sad to see it early or late, it is just that powerful.

Not the best 1st pack ever. I'd say that Far / Away is probably the best first pick in the pack in a vacuum, but we have to keep in mind what signals we are sending.

Ready / Willing isn't a bad choice just because of this. Both Green and White are lacking any really good cards in this pack and we might have a decent chance to hoard whatever white and green we come across to guarantee we get our colors pack 2 while we watch what signals we get this pack so we have an idea of what we will get pack 3 and can hoard that color in pack 2.

Of course if any of the people to our right opened with a strong G, W, or GW bomb like everyone's favorite $50 2 drop it could be disastrous in our second pack, but that's sort of a risk that applies regardless of your drafting strategy.

Also keep in mind that guild specific strategies may not be as viable with only DMG packs. I certainly can't see an extort deck realistically working with Tithe Drinker being the only realistic extort mob you are going to see (from what I can tell in DMG there are only 2 cards with each guild keyword, a common and a rare).

The way I see it we can either go 2 ways.

We can either pick the easiest to cast best cards trying to draft easy to cast cards until we get a bomb that more determines our direction, though we do run the risk of our bomb not matching the colors of a good number of our previous cards, and when building the deck we may not have a lot of choices in what we actually run.

We can also try to block the people to our right from 1-2 certain colors in hopes that they will pass us better cards of that color. Of course if any of the people to our right opened with a strong G, W, or GW bomb like everyone's favorite $50 2 drop it could be disastrous in our second pack, but that's sort of a risk that applies regardless of your drafting strategy. Also, if we get packs that have an abnormal number of awesome Green or White cards it could also be hard to starve the person to or right.

For option 1, Far / Away is probably the best choice. For option 2, Ready / Willing is probably the best choice where we then hoard White and Green (which imo has the best 2-3 drops).

As much as I love grabbing what is probably the best removal in the format I think color controlling Green or White will be a better option at this point.

For now I have to vote for it unless I can be convinced otherwise.+1 Ready / Willing

@KrazyCaley - So, glad I actually looked at individual card pages to better understand the problem before attempting to remedy that tagging issue. Just wanted to let you know that I feel like an idiot for that "solution" I alluded to earlier. :p

@Supersun - Double posts aside (they're fine, really), I do want to thank you for that exposition. Puts my mind at ease about Ready / Willing being in the lead so easily. Also, signals are rarely something I give much thought about, so it's good to hear about.

Honestly, I believe that in a multi-color block like this that the first pick is the most important one. It's probably the most important pick to influence what you get pack 2

I'll gladly pass up some seemingly superior cards for something not as impressive if picking the superior card is a deathtrap (aka opening a pack with 4 strong Orzhov cards in your pack. Good luck getting any extort in pack 2 like that.)

Also if this was DMG > GTC > RTR I'd suggest it just because imo the best color combos have either Green or White and Blue tends to be bad without Green or White bring involved, but that may be different with DMG > DMG > DMG.
