MTGA destroyed my Athreos, shroud-veiled

Asked by BrennanH 3 years ago

So I was playing brawler with Athreos, Shroud-Veiled as my commander and I didn't have enough Devotion to make him a creature so he was still an enchantment. My opponent played a triggered ability that allowed him to destroy target permanent and he targeted my Athreos and destroy it. So is this a miss coding in MTGA or is Athreos's indestructible not apply when he is just an enchantment and not a creature?

What card's triggered ability was it? It is possible it dealt with Atheros in a non-destroying manner.

This happend around summer last year so what cards he was playing I don't recall but I do remember that he was running white which has exile but after the second time he removed my commander I looked and saw nothing to remove indestructible and the card the was removing my commander said Destroy not exile. I even looked through his graveyard and there was no exile cards in his grave. He had an enchantment out and several token solders out along with his commander. I can't remember how he was pulling off the combo but there definitely wasn't any remove indestructible or exile going on.

Without seeing the situation, there's no way to answer your main question. However, I can answer that Athreos's indestructibility doesn't depend on whether it's a creature, it's just an ability of the card that it always has while in play, unless another effect removes the indestructibility.

What comes to mind, especially mentioning he had an enchantment out, is Elspeth Conquers Death , which would work to remove Athreos, Shroud-Veiled , but as said was said, without knowing the actual cards involved, it's hard to say. Could have been Arena messing up, or could have been the specific cards involved.

A quick Scryfall search shows the only white or part-white cards that can "destroy target permanent" and are legal in Historic (can't use Brawl because stuff rotates) are Bounty Agent and Vona, Butcher of Magan . Everything else exiles.

I don't think Bounty Agent has been on Arena but in the end I think my mane question is answered "can Athreos, Shroud-Veiled be Destroyed as an enchantment?" The match heppend before rotation and Athreos wasn't really released with the rest of the set but only as a box topper, it could have been easily over looked in the coding for his card on Arena. I haven't played with him since then on Arena so they could have fixed it since then by now. Thank you for your time in answering my question.

Note - if your opponent had out Shadowspear they could have hit with a lot of different effects...
