Is it possible to make Indestructible Planeswalkers?

Asked by TheNinjaPhoenix 12 years ago

I'm making an enchantment-based deck currently, using cards such as Sphere of Safety in conjunction with Enchanted Evening .

Enchanted Evening states that all permanents are enchantments. If I then use a card effect that makes enchantments indestructible, such as Elspeth, Knight-Errant 's emblem, does it mean that Planeswalkers among other permanents cannot be destroyed by destroy/damage effects such as a Lightning Bolt or Dreadbore ?

Yes, planeswalkers would become indestructible. However, this does not protect them from Lightning Bolt ; damage dealt to planeswalkers removes loyalty counters, and planeswalkers are put into your graveyard rather than destroyed when they hit 0 loyalty counters.

Damage will still kill them since they will be removed from the field upon having zero loyalty. But they would be protected from destroy effects like Dreadbore .

Blitzer is right; they would be immune to "destroy" effects such as Dreadbore or Beast Within , but if they hit 0 loyalty counters through damage, either by combat damage, a minus loyalty ability or noncombat damage through something like Lightning Bolt , it would be put into the graveyard.

There are lots of funky ways of making planeswalkers indestructible; your above combo, Avacyn, Angel of Hope /Aegis Angel , turning them into artifacts (e.g: Mycosynth Lattice and adding Darksteel Forge ), turning it into a land somehow and adding Darksteel Garrison , et cetera!

Didn't someone literally just ask this question?

Thanks for the answers guys - may not be using the planeswalkers, but it opens up a lot of other options too! :D
