How does Descendants' Path work?

Asked by Akromathia 5 years ago

I have just discovered this card, and I have been experimenting heavily with it.

After a few games enjoying the power given by the "free cast" provided by this card, I got to a point in which I had two copies of Descendants' Path , and I got completely confused.

A 1) The first Descendants' Path resolves, I show the first card, let us say that it is a Hungry Flames card. Then it goes to the bottom. And then what? Do I draw a card and repeat the process for the second Descendants' Path ? or I resolve the first effect on the second Descendants' Path and then I just draw one card?

2) If the shown card is something like Lambholt Pacifist  Flip, then I free cast it (pretend of a second that I have another human in play), and then I draw and start the second Descendants' Path effect? Or do I draw just one card after both Descendants' Path have resolved.

Thank you so much!

If you have two copies of Descendants Path on the battlefield under your control you will get two triggers at your upkeep.

Each trigger goes separately on the stack. The first trigger you reveal the top card of your library and then either cast the creature for free or put the card on the bottom of your library. The second trigger is the same, you reveal the next card from the top of your library. You stay in your upkeep until all triggers of Path have resolved. After triggers have resolved then you move on your draw step and continue your turn.

you basically just asked the same question twice. the upkeep happens before the draw step, so you wouldn't resolve one path, draw, then resolve the other. with 2 paths', you just use the same effect twice then draw.

There is an interesting interaction with two Descendants' Path . If you do control a human, say Noble Hierarch , and two Descendants' Path 's, in your upkeep both will trigger. If the first resolves and reveals Lambholt Pacifist  Flip so you cast it for free, that resolves, then the next Descendants' Path resolves and reveals Shrill Howler  Flip. You will be able to cast Shrill Howler  Flip because you now control Lambholt Pacifist  Flip, even though you did not control a werewolf when the ability initially triggered.

if you really wanna abuse the card, use some cheap eldrazi with heavy scry effects to cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and get an extra turn lol.

Neotrup Thank you! That is something that I was also confused about, so if I have 4 copies, every creature that was free casted before allows for a new creature type criteria. Quite interesting, thank you for you time.

Dear PlatinumOne, no… I did not do the same question twice, it was two parts of one question. I am sorry if I did not make myself clear to you. And yes, I know how to abuse the free cast pretty well, thanks
