Hexproof

Asked by ShadowLand 11 years ago

So if a creature has an enchantment that grants it hexproof, that means it can't be the target of a spell right, spells that reduce the life total to 0/0 would affect it still right? As long as the card does not read target creature right? Or spells that state Destroy All Creatures would still affect it right? Because it isn't being targeted, its just responding to a state based effect right?

Just clarifying

I don't know what you mean by reducing the life total.

If a spell doesn't say target, Hexproof doesn't do anything to it.

Let's use Day of Judgment as an example. Day of Judgment will hit Hexproof creatures since it doesn't target them.

SBE don't have anything to do with targeting in most cases.

You are correct. Hexproof does not stop a Supreme Verdict due to it lacking the word "target". It will stop a Tragic Slip , Murder , Unsummon , Mizzium Mortars , etc.

Now, if the Mizzium Mortars was cast with its Overload cost, it would still hit your creature as it replaces the word "target" with "each".

What spell are you thinking of that reduces life total? It won't work if it targets.

Mutilate would work in the "life total" department.

I assume you mean spells that would reduce the toughness of the creature to 0. Those still work as long as they don't target the hexproof object. For example, Black Sun's Zenith can still put -1/-1 counters on hexproof creatures, and Mutilate can still give -X/-X to hexproof creatures.

That's the example I was thinking of Epoch and psychoza, and Gaze of Granite works, because it doesn't target, and thanks everyone!
