Gideon Jura and Phantasmal image
Asked by baldiNL 13 years ago
Hi all,
I was thinking Gideon Jura 0 ability makes him a creature and stays a planeswalker, does this mean he is a 66 creature planeswalker and thereby targetable by phantasmal image?
If so is phantasmal image a planeswalker or does he stay 6/6 creature?
cheers
baldin
Dumb me i didnt think of it lol, thanks for the reminder on the planeswalker part=p

If you could some how get past the Planeswalker Rule (704.5j) (Mirror Gallery won't do it since "Legend Rule" is something else entirely) then you would have a non-creature Gideon Planeswalker Permanent. Since it is not a creature, it would not have the illusion subtype (since it is a creature-only subtype). But it would have the 'illusion' ability that kills him if he is targeted.
Much like Phyrexian Metamorph on an animated Inkmoth Nexus only makes an (artifact) land, the effect that causes him to become a creature is just that, an effect. Copying cards only gives you a copy of what is printed on that card. The same idea as if you were coping a Llanowar Elves with Giant Growth on him. Your copy would still be a 1/1, not a 4/4.

It should be noted that Gideon Jura can only be a creature during it's controller's turn (since you can only activate loyalty ability on your own turn). Additionally, you can only cast Phantasmal Image (or Phyrexian Metamorph ) on your own turn (unless they somehow gain flash or are imprinted on a Mimic Vat ).

It would become an exact copy of the creature, and that means it would also gain the "planeswalker" card type as well. They will then both be sent to the graveyard due to state based effects of the planeswalker rule. (There can only be 1 of the same subtype of planeswalker on the battlefield at once.)
