End of turn

Asked by Aelorith2117 11 years ago

Do I gain control of all creatures at end of turn if I cast Insurrection then Gather Specimens ?

No, because no creatures are entering the battlefield when Insurrection ends. They're just going back to their original controller. The creatures never leave the battlefield.

Try Day of the Dragons for this instead (note the wording of the second ability). There are a few other similar cards that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Day of the Dragons only removes creatures I control. I want to steal other peoples creatures permanently with Gather Specimens ..

What he was saying is that you play Insurrection and then Day of the Dragons you remove all of the creatures from play and get a dragon for each. When Day of the Dragons leaves play you put all of the removed creatures back into play under your control. They are different objects than the one who was going to get returned so you keep them until they die.

Ink-Treader Nephilim with Act of Treason and Cloudshift is a less mana but more cards way to gain permanent control of all opponent's creatures.

Exactly what Gidgetimer said: I meant to use Day of the Dragons instead of Gather Specimens (I assumed this would be obvious, my mistake). You play Insurrection , attack, then play after combat play Day of the Dragons , locking you into your massive creature advantage. This is a trick I've seen a few times.

To gain that kind of advantage from Gather Specimens , you will need something that puts creatures into play for your opponents. There are a couple of ways you could conceivably do this, particularly in black; the important trick is probably to avoid it being optional (since you will most likely have to have Gather Specimens resolve before your opponents would have to make their choice, in cases where it is optional). Living End , Living Death , and Exhume come to mind.
