Brave Naya... What's the haps?

Seriously, been hearing a lot of buzz about the deck... But have not seen anyone playing it. Is the deck good? Is it worth it to take to a super IQ in a few weeks...

With that said. Super IQ coming up in Raleigh. Who's going? Aaaaaaand what should I play?

Right now I am rocking Junk midrange. But control fucks me up a bit. Wondering if I should switch.

Brave Naya is a big player in the SCGOpens. It's essentially a W/r/g deck that runs W/x creatures like Voice of Resurgence and Boros Reckoner , and then saves them with Brave the Elements .

The deck is a very typical GW deck like those that we say in inn/rav; They're very fragile to mulligans. If they don't have the perfect opener, they really struggle recovering from say, a mono-black assault of Thoughtseize and the like.

Personally, I wouldn't play the deck because it isn't very resiliant to control decks and can straight flop to a solid mono black hand.

What is your junk list? Junk has the possibility to be really good, but you have to know how to play it. You may be able to keep at it if it's solid, but right now I don't think that it's top-8 worthy.

Forgot to mention that Boros Charm is also a major player in the brave naya deck. It uses the counter-target-Supreme Verdict mode very often, and can use the burn to get the final punch through.

There's a good number of lists on MTGTop8.com. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

My Junk deck is the Hoogland list. Yeah, I am not very original. Haven't played standard in a while.

The hoogland list is alright, but I think that you'll have more trouble with it than he did strictly because people know about it now. You'll also need a lot of testing with it against every matchup in the format to learn the right plays. Hoogland puts a ton of testing into his decks, which is why he is so good about knowing the correct plays.

Yeah, I have been doing that. I opted out of going to an iq this weekend for a solid test environment on game day. Got in top 8, then lost to monsters from mana screw in game 2. 25 lands and a slew of scry effects... And still get screwed. Lol.

The biggest draw to brave Naya is sometimes you just get to Boros Charm + Ghor-Clan Rampager folks, but as mentioned it's not the most consistent list, with 4x Brave the Elements , Boros Charm and Selesnya Charm it can sometimes just draw the wrong part of the deck.

It's also got that classic problem of being decent against everything, but not great either. There really isn't a smaller aggro deck to beat up on, so you're mainly relying on your control and midrange match-ups. While the deck has some tools for beating them, it still can have issues with cards that are classically good against aggro.

As for the Super IQ, I'll probably be there. Event Horizons is just down the road a bit.

Really, though, just play Esper control. It's the most consistent deck in Standadd right now in terms of its draws and it's the only deck that doesn't really have a bad match-up after game-one if your sideboard is built right. Here it is:

Zandl's Esper (JOU)

I've been using a lot of Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver recently and I really like what I'm finding. She's good against everything but Burn and she's mediocre against MBD, so do with that what you will.

I've been wood-shedding this list for quite some time and I feel this is basically perfect now, at least for my meta which is low on both Burn and MBD.

My mono black matchup with Junk is awesome. Which is a deck that I would assume is played a lot at Super IQs. I bet there will be a lot of that fake dredge too. I have been meta gaming my SB lately. Here is what I expect:

MBD variants (Bg mostly)

UWx control

Brave Naya (based on the primers I have seen lately, although I have not seen it top anything important)

Monsters.

Those are my big four that I expect to see. Like I said, MBD is pretty easy win for me post board especially. UW control is easy, but when people splash red or black it gets sketchy. My biggest concern is the naya and the monsters matchup. They are 50/50 in game 1, and can have potential to be much worse game 2 and 3.

I do not even worry about any kind of white weenie decks or BW aggro decks, as the second I drop baron out, it gets nerfed hard.

I am going to take my junk deck to a local win a box in the near future, to test the waters before the big day. With changes to the board of course.

I would put a link to my deck for some of your advice, but somebody else's shows up. It's on my page, and it's called "bleed"
