Snapcaster or Jace, VP?
Modern Deck Help forum

I'm nearly done of my dream modern deck, Grixis control. All I have left to buy in the mainboard are either 3x Snapcaster Mage or 3x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip. I have the economical means to buy three of one, but not both. I'm wondering which card is better for a spell heavy Grixis control list running 2x Cryptic and 3x Kolaghan's command, as well as 4x Thoughtscour and 4x Terminate. Which do you guys think will serve me better in the long run? Sorry for the all-over-the-place post, it's real late here lol.
Thanks so much for your input!

Definitely Snapcaster Mage in Grixis Control. Recasting your most important spells is more important than cycling through your deck.
Also, do you mind linking your decklist?

Snapcaster is... probably 90%, maybe 95%, guaranteed for a reprint in Modern Masters 2017... which is in March. If you can wait three months, you can probably get them for half of what they are now.
Course, Modern being the cesspit that it currently is, the Ban and Restriction announcement in January might see a Snapcaster ban, or something equally as ridiculous. Seriously don't think WotC has any credibility when it comes to that format anymore at this point.

Definitely Snapcaster Mage. Jace does provide some nice card filtering, but he is often a lightning rod the first turn cycle he comes into play. Snapcaster Mage gives you both card advantage and flexibility, and without the potential tempo disadvantage that Jace brings. Snapcaster also operates at instant speed, while Jace can only flash back at sorcery speed.
I also concur with the potential for Snappy reprints in the upcoming modern masters set. If you can hold off, they'll be cheaper.

Snapcaster Mage every day, and twice on Sundays. Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip has a place in some combo decks, but for a control deck, you want Snappy.

100% agree with Snapcaster Mage. He is my hero in Grixis Control! I feel like Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip has little to no synergy in that deck, as stated before, he's a target before use and can't block in those pesky aggro decks.
Here's at look at my Grixis Control is use if that helps.

The convention is to play Jace with discard spells and less of a draw-go game plan, and Snaps for when you want to pass with mana up. Your version definitely facilitates playing the Snapcasters instead of Jace.

Definitely Snapcaster Mage. Grixis control has very few creatures, so very few Lightning Bolt targets. That Jund opponent will jump for joy every time you cast your Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip. Snapcaster Mage is also better in the aggro matchups because the nonzero power means blocking a Goblin Guide is a thing. T1 bolt, T2 Spell Snare, T3 Snap-Spell Snare + block a creature vs Burn is a very good line of play, while Jace does nothing in that matchup.
