Is Mana Tithe really that effective? I realise most of the time players save 1-3 lands to counter spells on an opponents turn and if this was the case I could see it working but can anyne speak from experience that has used it many times?

A counterspell from white is something no one expects. If you catch someone with their pants down it can be quite useful. I've seen my old shop owner nail a Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre with a Force Spike before.
So yes. It can be useful especially if people don't know if you run it.

ALL decks tap out at some point or another. There's never been a deck that never tapped out.

White only has access to a few counter spells so yes it's effective. The only ones I know of are:
and to some extend Mental Misstep

I kinda wish they would have reprinted Force Spike as the Mana Leak "replacement" in RTR.

Atleast we have Frightful Delusion , I like that card. I think Force Spike would have been too powerful for today standard to be honest.

Force Spike would've been just as bad (or worse) than Mana Leak was. Control would destroy everything.

It's FAR easier to play around Force Spike as an aggro player than it is to play around Mana Leak

Well, yeah. But Force Spike costing 1 means that you can play your control a lot more aggressively than usually, since you only have to keep one land open.

I'm aware. However this coming from a primarily aggro player I still think Force Spike wouldn't be as bad as Mana Leak .

Another unexpected counterspell in white is Lapse of Certainty , for those who haven't seen it. I think it's kinda funky.

So yes.
