There are like, 20 different kinds of dual lands out there. Some are pretty good, some... Well, just aren't that good. Let's say I'm not willing to spend 100 dollars on Volcanic Island . What are the best dual lands for someone who doesn't want to spend more than like, $20 on a card, unless he really needs to?
You could go with the painlands, like Brushland and Battlefield Forge . Assuming you're not in immediate danger from the beginning of the game and can spare the life.

I concur, the best for the cost right now are the Return to Ravnica/Gatecrash shocklands, which go for anything from $9-$13 right now.

Shocklands from RtR and Gatecrash. The current standard taplands are super cheap. They're all pretty good.

The filter lands from Shadowmoor are good and the future sight land cycle has some fun cards in it

The Scars of Mirrodin duals also aren't very pricey, though they suffer a drawback in mid to late game situations.

Thanks for all the comments, y'all. They've been really helpful. On a somewhat related note, in a casual setting, which would you rather use, guild signets (Dimir Signet ) or guild keyrunes (Dimir Keyrune )?

Keyrunes. Having access to creatures that don't die to sorcery-speed removal is a lot better than mana fixing a turn earlier.

The shocklands are a really good investment for standard and modern plus the guildgates and the M-Cycle/Innistrad lands are usually more than enough color fixing, And if you want to add ramp to any color scheme the keyrunes are so darn good each one of them is a champion

The new shocks right now are all going for less than 20 dollars a pop. Blood Crypt and Steam Vents can even be picked up for less than 10 atm.
