What's driving the price of Veil of Summer ?

With everyone freaking out about Oko, Thief of Crowns I'm going to say the ability to give your stuff hexproof from blue at instant speed.

Veil of Summer is great for every format, I think even vintage is using it.

It is the equivalent as a one cost green counterspell that also draws you a card. Even in bad match ups you can even cycle it away when it is not needed.

The card is simply amazing.

for Veil of Summer : Counter target spell; draw a card. Plus make your stuff Hexproof.

vs.

for Cryptic Command Modes 1 and 4 (the most common, by far): Counter target spell,: draw a card?

Yeah, I'll take some of that! :-)

clayperce: to say that Veil of Summer "counters a spell" is misrepresenting it greatly. the comparison of mana costs is also not accurate, because Cryptic Command truly does counter a spell, guarantees the card draw without relying on your opponent to play certain things, and also offers 2 additional modes to choose from. i get what you're saying that it "can" do the same thing for less mana in niche situations, but theres a valid reason for the difference in mana costs here.

It's not often I see new cards and think that they could have been in Unlimited.

Veil of Summer has those old school high power level feels...this card gives Green strengths that they have never had before. I can see it hitting $15-$20 in five years.

Lol, of course it's not exactly the same. Veil doesn't have the extra modes, and it's sideboard tech vs. Blue and Black decks rather than mainboard tech vs. everyone.

But in the match-ups where we want it, casting Veil seriously feels like cheating, with a better Cryptic.

This is not an unprecedented card... It is quite similar to Autumn's Veil ... Just a little better but @ 1000% the price.

Gleeock Replacing itself is huge! Autumn's Veil draws even, but Veil of Summer is card advantage as well as protecting your stuff.

A much as anything I was responding to the comment that it gives green strengths never before had. I won't deny that self-replacement is great. However, either way you look at it either card should be run on a full-stocked hand on a blowout turn anyway

... and its now banned in Pioneer. Which makes me curious what will happen in next weeks B&R announcement for other formats like standard.

I approve of this latest ban.

That card was everywhere in the meta.

Of course it now makes all the decks I added to the testing gauntlet obsolete.

Arclight Phoenix remains untouched.
