Black Garruk? Ideas?

So we're supposed to get a black Garruk in M15, and it looks like he's a hunter. So I created a hunter-themed black Garruk. What do you guys think? Do you have other ideas for black Garruk?

Wow that card is awful lol. + ability does literal nothing, the first minus is tragically underpowered, and the ultimate is useless.

If Garruk is going to have a black tinge he'll still be green, so probably a multicolor card.

I don't think he'll be mono black. I would bet on some kind of B/G combination. I also the -6 on yours is way OP

I actually really wish this was a real card. But I'm running multiple decks with black that could use this to great effect.

kmcree Couple of reasons why monoblack is much more likely than black/green:

  1. It's a core set. Core sets don't typically have multicolored cards. The only exception to this is Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker , but he's fucking Nicol Bolas. He can break the rules.

  2. Every promotional video or art out now depicts a very black Garruk. He makes trees wilt and kills beasts, his eyes are purple, he's under the chain veil's influence...Garruk just looks black.

Also, I think the ultimate is reasonably balanced. By turn seven, you should have already won, and considering that his minus three seems much better than his plus one, he's likely to not even get to ultimate range. And it's not a "may" effect, so it could end up being a drawback if your opponent stops playing creatures because of him.

I just don't see them printing a completely black Garruk without first showing a B/G one. I think they'll change him more gradually, as opposed to just "oh he's green in this core set, and all of a sudden the next one he's black". It would make more sense to have it be a more gradual change, as Liliana gradually gains more and more power over him.

As far as the ult, getting an emblem that gives you a free kill spell every turn is way OP. It could be reasonable if it cost more, but for just -6 that's too much. Look at something like Elspeth, Sun's Champion . Her ult is -7, and I would argue it's less powerful than this one. Additionally, her +1 protects herself, making it easier for you to get to the ult. Kiora, the Crashing Wave has her ult at -5, and I would argue its significantly less powerful than this one. And she only starts at 2, not 3 like your Garruk. Wizards have gone towards less powerful ultimates, in favor of more powerful primary abilities.

OP? The -6 isn't even very good. an ult should just end the game pretty much. This one gives advantage but often won't even swing the game in your favour if it isn't already.

So putting a vanilla 9/9 token into play on your end step ends the game? Or drawing 20 cards ends the game? Even Jace, Architect of Thought 's ult doesn't immediately end the game. Very few ultimates actually end the game right then and there. They're designed to give an advantage and put you at a point where it is highly unlikely you will lose. If they just won you the game that wouldn't be very fun.

Well you named a bunch of mediocre planeswalkers with mediocre ults. This ult is mediocre, definitely not OP

Sorry, I just named the ults of 2 of the highest played walkers in standard. And I already talked about Elspeth earlier. Does Xenagos, The Reveler end the game? Domri Rade is pretty much the only ult in standard that immediately ends the game, assuming of course you have a board presence.

I agree in the Idea that Garruk will be mono black they have already stated from the panel at PAX East that he has lost his ability to wield green magic. Also he is completely under the veil's curse and if we take that he is now a fully corrupted PW instead of Garruk Relentless  Flip that had the transformation in process then we can probably deduce that he is now his transformed side permanently. This is all in theory but everything still points to this as a major possibility.

Planeswalker ults don't end games... They encourage scoops.

He doesn't end the game... he just re-starts it :)

Also you forgot about JTMS. He essentially ends the game if you can stabilise, and the fact that you get off his ult suggest that you have already stabilised.

I made one a while back because I was also curious about possibilities.

I did my best to make him still feel greenish while definitely being black. Here is what I came up with.

Garruk, Defiled
