Roon of the Hidden Realm vs. Derevi, Empyrial Tactician?

I want to try a rebuild of the new Bant pre-con EDH deck. I'm using Derevi, Empyrial Tactician right now, and abusing tap effects. I would like to try it around Roon of the Hidden Realm after hearing good things from my friend.
Who would be the more competitive general?
derevi, by a long shot. But rather than aiming to abuse tap effects, I'd go for sac effects like Birthing Pod (which coincidently synergizes with tap effects as well) and friends. Derevi is so good with that.

@Epochalyptik, Derevi just took 1st place at the BOM, so I'd beg to differ with your first statement.

Personally I like Derevi, Empyrial Tactician in an artifact Voltron deck like I want, my bird.... It's rough right now and needs work but it's because I'm converting it from Silence! I Keel You!.
Every Voltron deck has the problem of being reliant on it's commander. Derevi, Empyrial Tactician ensures that your general is ALWAYS available for a low cost. He is also uncounterable and does stupid things with the right protection.

@Blakkhand: First place at what?
And you can differ in opinion if you like, but Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is not inherently competitive. You can build a competitive deck around most generals, but that doesn't make the general more or less competitive on its own.
I will say that, however, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is more stable than some other generals because of its activated ability.

Awesome, thanks guys [:
I think I might stick with Derevi, Empyrial Tactician . I've seen crazy things with her effect.
@Blakkhand While that seems like a good idea, wouldn't it require the deck to be build around it? I just don't understand the feasibility of the card in an EDH setting with this general, I suppose. And what is BOM?
@Ohthenoises I definitely thought about a voltron style with Derevi, which would be pretty awesome without commander tax. But I can't afford the better artifacts. I could do it budget of course, but for example, the swords of X and Y are incredible and make a big impact.
@Epochalyptik I actually think Derevi is very competitive, if used correctly. Even with what's included in the pre-con, like Kazandu Tuskcaller . Level it up to just two and do combat damage with a few creatures, and you can start spawning tokens for days. Arcanis the Omnipotent gives insane draws after combat damage.

Roon of the Hidden Realm has made my blink deck so much more fun to play (and I hope less of a target). But I think he is a very thematic general and unless you want to play flicker / blink, then he isn't as good.
I suspect that Derevi, Empyrial Tactician could be used in infinite combos (or nearly infinite) - although nothing comes to mind immediately. I don't want two bant EDH decks and I like the one I have (although I do plan to update it some).
I didn't really feel the need to change the deck I already had outside of swapping the general, making Rubinia Soulsinger a one-of, and getting rid of all the artifacts I had added to protect her from table hate and replacing that stuff with needed lands. It is Winky Blinky (Roon EDH) if you want to use it for comparison (note the budget build and things like that though ... )

Bloom Tender + Ashnod's Altar + Derevi, Empyrial Tactician nets you infinite mana r3v13w.

Ahh yes! Thanks! I knew it ... just didn't take the time to find the details. Very nice!

BOM = Bazaar of Moxen, sorry for not explaining that in the original post. Here is the link: http://mtgtop8.com/event2?e=5944

That's 1v1 I take it because Primeval Titan is banned in EDH.

Yeah, its 1v1, but my point still stands. Derevi can kick ass.

Neither general is inherently competitive, so it's more of a stylistic choice than anything else. Go with the one that best fits the way you play. Or the one that you think would be most interesting. They cater to different strategies.
