How good is Mizzium Meddler?

Sheldon put's Mizzium Meddler in the Cards somebody might try-category, and it might provide some utility for i.e protecting your creatures from spot removal, abilities like Attrition, stealing a powerful aura from voltron-decks, etc. There's also creature-matters-decks like Sidisi, Brood Tyrant or decks focused on re-using ETB-effects that might want this.

Do you think Mizzium Meddler could see any play as a counter/utilityspell in casual decks?

In casual, maybe. Then again, a lot of cards see play in casual.

I think a counterspell is just straight up better.

Even in decks that want a lot of creatures like Sidisi or decks built around re-using etb-effects (with i.e Deadeye Navigator)

It's still mediocre. I guess if you play Draining Whelk, then this is right up your alley.

I don't think I can ever see myself playing this card. Straight up counters are usually better. I guess you could also value Spellskite, but that's more of a deterrent than anything else.

Its a 3 mana Counterspell against Abrupt Decay. That alone is decent. Good sideboard if decay is making your life miserable..

Epochalyptik: I do. Do you think they have about the same powerlevel? 3 mana is a lot easier to leave open compared to 6. I think I'll try it out in my Sidisi, Brood Tyrant, but probably not in Roon of the Hidden Realm.

TheDevicer: Except that regular counters don't stop activated abilities, and Spellskite doesn't have flash, so it's might be a less expected counter.

Anyway, I guess the answer to how powerful Mizzium Meddler is, is "not very".

See i like this card. if im reading it right doesnt it allow you to change what creatures auras get put on? If so this is good for that reason. Its not the best card but i like messing with my opponents so i could definately see myself playing this card.

This might be a stupid question, but can Mizzium Meddler redirect effects that targets players to itself (i.e. Thoughtseize)? It simply says "change a target" without specifying anything else.

It does allow you to redirect aura spells, but it can't reattach auras once they're on the field.

You can never declare an illegal target or change any target to an illegal target. Mizzium Meddler's ability can target any spell or ability on the stack, but if Mizzium Meddler isn't a legal choice for any of that spell or ability's targets, then the targets remain unchanged.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
