What do you think of this new commander? I think the second ability is a bit to much
GWB
Flying 2/3 bird wizard
Whenever Derevi enters the battlefield or a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may tap or untap target permanent
1GWB: put Derevi onto the battlefield from the command zone

The untap ability will be abused. And for the second ability... I dont't know.... I like it but it's a bittoo powerfull. I feel the commander has it's cost a bit too cheap. I would feel more at ease at 1GWB and 2GWB for the second ability.
I mean, both ability combo so well.... It's a repeatable untap permanents and can untap a load of them in a token deck....

Bobgalarneau, let's not fool ourselves into thinking commander is anything else than a format of broken abilities and combos of all types. The untap/tap abilities are already abused, for example Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Pestermite with Anger in the graveyard as one simple example (Palinchron and Deadeye Navigator is another). If these do not degenerate the meta enough to be banned, I highly doubt derevi will also. Sure it will be abused, but what isn't?

Yeah i know.... At least it require colored mana and a sac output to go infinite. It should take more than two cards to infinite...

I'm just wondering why it's black. Unless the B's are actually U's...

Yeah i was not awake when i did the post, it's GWU....

Oh, this is interesting. Might build a edh with him...
OT though, I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would break him. Infinite mana and a repeatable sac effect will give you infinite ETB/LTB triggers, but if you have infinite mana in the first place, you probably could have won without him

gufymike Why do you need Anger in the graveyard? Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker gives the Pestermite tokens haste and has haste himself. Just curious, maybe I missed something?

Necrachilles thinking of another combo actually. Which both are part of the hermit druid edh deck. Thanks for pointing that out.

gufymike, I assume when you say "the hermit druid edh deck" you mean "a hermit druid edh deck", as THE hermit druid deck on mtgs includes neither kiki-jiki or pestermite.

Ah okay lol. Was just curious, I am still learning things here and there. :D

Blakkhand Mine, the one I'm building. MTGS is not the be all end all either or should be considered when I say 'the' or imply singular (I hardly, if ever look at their lists, maybe a primer or two, but very rarely). So yes, take it as 'a' deck.

Who cares about combos. IT'S BIRD TRIBAL TIME!!! Play it with Seaside Haven and Soulcatchers' Aerie and you have a recurring draw effect and a growing anthem.

Just realized that my previous comment is a little confusing. I don't mean sacrificing Derevi and get it back since she goes to the command zone, but rather use her ability to untap Seaside Haven over and over to sac more birds.

As are fox and goat, yet some of us dream to make tribal goat!

I like it more and more I think about it (specifically the second ability). I'm glad to see wizards giving a lot of support for the commanders. This one utilizing the command zone and making it easier to cast each time it gets killed and also with the other two that have been spoiled, using the mana to cast them to do certain things. Instead of designing normal magic cards or re-printing famous commanders, they are bringing us new commanders with relevant abilities.
