Should I Put Doom Whisperer into My Liesa Deck?

Commander Deck Help forum

I am considering putting Doom Whisperer into my Liesa, Shroud of Dusk EDH deck, because of its obvious synergy with that deck, but I would like to ask for advice, first.

The demon would be an easy replacement for Crystal Ball, because, while it does have a higher casting cost, its ability costs no mana, only life, which this deck excels at gaining. If the demon had the scry mechanic, rather than surveil, I would already have had it in that deck, but, since that is not the case, I need to be more cautious.

Does my Liesa deck have a sufficient amount of graveyard recursion to justify putting Doom Whisperer into it? What does everyone else say about this subject?

I love doom whisperer I run it in my Kathril, Aspect Warper deck and it is a great way to dump around 10-20 cards into your graveyard in one turn for either a massive pay off through Rise of the Dark Realms or finding a combo piece.

In your case you won't really be taking advantage of the recursion route so it would be more so used to search for answers or a combo piece. Since you are focusing on life gain you will likely be able to dig pretty deep. If you have a combo that you want to dig for that can win you the game I'd say go for it. Otherwise it isn't a bad card and you will still get card advantage out of it but isn't a necessary one.

If anything just proxy it and test it out. See how it actually plays out.

Necrosis24, that sounds good; thank you, very much.

On a different subject, how likely is it that WotC may print a creature that is identical to Doom Whisperer, except that it has scry, rather than surveil?

Not sure tbh but it is a possibility more so in a commander set than a standard one. Although usually scry is tied to another condition like discarding, sacrificing a creature, creature etb, etc.
