Ring of Three Wishes or Arcane Encyclopedia?

Commander Deck Help forum

Every EDH deck that I have has a copy of Ring of Three Wishes , because that card is amazing, but I am considering replacing it with Arcane Encyclopedia , because the ring requires great amounts of mana to be invested into it in order for it to provide any benefit, whereas the encyclopedia has a much lower cost and also can be used indefinitely.

I know that the ability to find the exact card that one desires is very powerful, but spending ten mana to find it will likely leave the player unable to cast it until their next turn, so I wish to ask the other users here for their feedback.

What does everyone else say about this subject? Should I replace Ring of Three Wishes with Arcane Encyclopedia ?

Depends which deck, there are better ways to sink your mana for better draw in other cards certainly, even tho I cannot think of any on top of my head.

If you are trying to do better than those cards I have a few suggestions. Planar Bridge puts cards directly into play. What colors are you mostly in. Or should I stay colorless.

Being able to tutor for the best card in any situation is much better than a random draw. I'm assuming you're playing boros or something because GUB all have more efficient ways of drawing or tutoring.

White can tutor legendary stuff pretty good, and equipment and Enchantments pretty good too. And red has one tutor called Gamble and the other tutors red has specifically searches out, like a goblin or whatever. Not very good. But green has fantastic tutors for lands. And ones that can get creatures to hand or directly into play. Blue tutors artifacts and instants and sorcery spells mostly, it has a few transmute spells that tuter up cmc specific spells. And then there's black, it's the best at this, can grab anything really. Can tutor to hand or grave both really good. Also has transmute. But when it comes to colorless it's good at none of this except getting lands. If it's for nonland stuff you pay a high cmc price for it. Like ring of 3 wishes.

When you start to combine colors into the tutors the ones outside of green white. Are weird and janky like Guided Passage .

What about Book of Rass ? It costs six mana, but its ability costs only 2 mana to activate and can be used repeatedly.
