Aether Revolt Update! —Jan. 25, 2017

I'm a firm believer in adding SOMETHING from each new set to each deck, even if just temporarily as a way to keep things fresh. That said, Kaladesh block has been very, very poor for Gitrog decks. Aether Revolt is slightly better than OG Kaladesh, but it's still a bit light.

Fatal Push - Turns out "Revolt" and the Gitrog Monster are pretty good friends. The problem is, this card is very narrow in scope. Spots for removal are limited here. This is fine, but I don't see cutting something more flexible or powerful for this.

Aid from the Cowl - Another "Revolt" card that's almost good enough. We're going to have Revolt on almost every turn, but it's just such an underwhelming effect. If only this card could trigger on opponents turns... Basically, go nuts if you're playing a more casual version of the deck.

Heroic Intervention - We're a combo deck without blue. Sometimes you need to protect your pieces the turn you go off. I'm not going to run it, but this has utility for sure.

Rishkar, Peema Renegade - Turning two creatures into mana dorks is good. Really good. Especially when you're not attacking. I expect this card will see a lot of play and I could imagine it finding a home here. Again, more casual, less combo-y decks are going to like this way more.

Rishkar's Expertise - This card is bonkers and any deck that runs green is going to be considering it. In our deck, it's basically always "Draw 5, cast the best thing in your hand". I think we found our winner for the set!

Paradox Engine - Basically every deck has to decide, right now, can it make use of this card. Here, the answer depends heavily on if you have mana dorks. If you're running the full compliment, this card is straight busted. Especially here where drawing cards to keep your hand full of spells to go off with is often a trivial matter.

I want to build a Gitrog deck of my own, but I was planning on making it more reminiscent of Prosbloom, with Gitrog replacing Prosperity and Exsanguinate replacing Drain Life. Still, cool deck.

Penthoplayer I've always loved Pros Bloom! It's a great deck. You can, essentially, add Cadaverous Bloom to this deck and go off that way. The Dakmor Salvage loop is card positive (most of the time), so you frequently end up with a lot of extra cards in hand. If you've found a way to put Bloom in play (and you've drawn Exsanguinate) at that point, you can just win on the spot. You could run Damnable Pact in place of Prosperity for basically the same deck.

That said, I found the deck more consistent running the graveyard combo.
