Rotation —Sept. 10, 2014

Since so many people have been asking for decks for Khans Standard, I decided to quickly create a few cheap decks and link them to this deck.

-The Best $20 You'll Ever Spend -- Black

-The Best $20 You'll Ever Spend -- Red

I think that starting fresh is better than adapting a deck to be something its not. I'll keep making budget aggro decks until I feel like I've made the best one possible.

Altac Bloodseeker might could find a place in here. Use it with a burn spell.

For Altac Bloodseeker to be any good, I'd have to play it on turn 3 with a Shock in hand to truly benefit. Basically it's a Minotaur Skullcleaver with some assembly. Sure it's repeatable, but often times I'll lack the burn.

Good point, I may be overlooking something but about the only other card I can think of that I've seen is Ulcerate . I think you have made this thing as beastly as possible haha.

I posted earlier before you cleared comments, but what are your thoughts on Frenzied Goblin ? I feel like this guy could ultimately be a more useful one-drop than Tormented Hero.

I haven't seen anything in M15 that is really up to competing for a spot in the current set list.

I really miss the deck (mine had a few changes to match the meta at my local fnm). I posted earlier that i sold it to one of those players who would rather buy other peoples decks card for card. I was planning to create a different deck because ive been running different rakdos decks for a while. I Instantly regretted it at my next tournament. I barely placed 13/25 while i used to regularly get 3rd or 4th place.

Quick question Arorsthrar: Even though this card will be rotating out soon, have you thought about including Mugging maindeck?

have you thought of eternal thirst for lifelink and +1/+1? or borderland marauder instead of minotaur skullcleaver cuz its one mana less plus it gets +2/+0 when it swings and i recommend putting mad cap skills to make it ur strongest attacking monster for 6 rather than 5. and finally generator servant on turn 2 and sacrificing it on turn 3 for a stormbreath dragon or any 5 mana costing monster or less for turn 3. i named stormbreath dragon cuz of the flying 4/4 but then it would be budget :l

wouldn't* . also crippling blight? target creature gets -1/-1 and can't block. or sign in blood for draw 2 cards lose 2 life which is always good if your low on cards for w/e reason and personally i like inferno fist because not only does it give your creature +2/+0 but you can pay one mountain and sacrifice it for basically another shock.

So far, I'm testing Frenzied Goblin . I don't think it's going to make it to the main board because I usually don't have the Red Mana to fully benefit and as an attacker, he's not great. (1/1 without haste is quite slow, despite the upside).

ironwolf222- The Generator Servant , while it sounds awesome, is really unstable, and unlikely to happen. Eternal Thirst requires me to use removal. Borderland Minotaur is decent, but I think I'd still rather run Rakdos Shred-Freak for its mana ease, devotion, and haste.

Last night at FNM was my first time ever playing MTG with paper cards, only having played some Duels of the Planeswalkers briefly to pick up the rules. This awesome deck helped me win my first 4 matches and I made it to top 8. I definitely recommend this deck to any other newbies who are looking to get into this game cheap as it really did only cost me $20. Thanks alot Arorsthrar!

Arorsthrar, I've been trying to get into MTG, and I've been looking at Red Deck Burns- Fire and Lightning Edition by GoldGhost012, but that deck is going to cost me $80, which is a little more than I'm willing to fork over to start out. This looks like a pretty interesting deck for a total newb. And only $12! Was just wondering, will this still be viable after the rotation? A lot of the cards look like they're rotating out. Are there viable replacements lined up/expected?

TheNinjaJesus- Altac Bloodseeker requires a lot of work to be put into it. Sure it sounds great on turn 3 after you Shock and Elvish Mystic , but that isn't consistent enough. For now, I'll leave the Limited All-Star in Limited.

Inferno Fist is something I've considered, but as long as Madcap Skills is still in standard, I think I'd run that over it.

thebobjoe- Thanks for trying the deck. I've been looking at a post rotation R/B aggro deck that is similar to what I have now. There are replacements, but only time will tell as still half the card pool for the next standard still has to be revealed. Even then, the metagame has to form, and that would influence deck building decisions.

Arorsthrar, have you ever considered Chandra's Phoenix ? I'm definitely not at all an expert in the game, but I've seen a lot of rdw style decks run it. Haste + revives + flying sounds like a good deal to me

@thebobjoe too slow for thsi deck

August 12, 2014 12:53 a.m.

thebobjoe says... #19

Niksotr8, I actually expect that answer :D Can you explain why though? It has haste which means that it has an impact the moment it hits the board. Is it just the raw mana cost that makes it too slow? I could see the game pretty much being pretty much decided by the time it comes out if this is an exceptionally fast deck. But I'm very new to mtg, so I don't really know what is considered fast and slow in it :D

August 12, 2014 1:44 a.m.

@thebobjoe: Chandra's Phoenix has RR in it's cost, which is hard to get and unreliable with this mana base. And, a 2/2 flyer for 3 frankly isn't very impressive compared to the other 3 costs in this deck. I mean, would you rather make your whole team unblockable or have a 2/2 flying haste?

SevynnthDimension, I use titan's strength in my version of this deck: (Formerly) 20$ Rakdos timely combat tricks have been the difference between winning and losing in many of the games I've played with this deck and the scry is great.

August 20, 2014 9:03 a.m.

Agreed. I had cheap aggro quite similar to this and I used Titan's Strength I just wanted a second opinion, so thanks

Arorsthrar says... #24

I've considered Titan's Strength , and I'll look back at it again. I'll most likely replace Shock .

August 20, 2014 11:34 a.m.

I did have a question about the Gnarled Scarhide s...are they that important to the deck because I'd leave in the shocks and take out the scarhides...
