2-2 FNM, it was my fault :( —June 10, 2017

Ah, I could've gone 3-1 or 4-0 but I was tired and misplayed severely in the last couple games.

Won R1 versus U/R Eldrazi, 2-0; Won R2 versus Temur Marvel, 2-1

Lost R3 to G/R Pummeler, 1-2. Game three I kept an absolutely unkeepable hand (3 lands, two Attune with Aether, a Bristling Hydra and a Chandra, Torch of Defiance) because my tired eyes looked at it and went "Ah, all 3 colors, a keep." Got punished by 3 Pummeler and 2 Hydra. Had I looked for a hand with ANY removal (I have 9 2-mana removal spells and 3 Radiant Flames), I probably would have won. I almost stabilized just with the above cards and a Rogue Refiner, but the last card in his hand was the pump spell he needed.

Lost R4 to B/W "Control"/Midrange, 0-2. Game 1 I ran a Hydra into a Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld forgetting about first strike. Game 2 he landed a Gideon and I couldn't find a Glorybringer, having mis-sided anticipating a harder control gameplan, and he made Ormendahl for the win. (I really wish this deck was running black sometimes for To the Slaughter! Ack!)

Disappointing night, but can't really say it was the deck's fault! I am proud of it for demolishing the Marvel list. Next week I'll remember to eat before playing :)

I appreciate you giving credit to the thanks for linking to the original source for your inspiration.

I've been trying to build the similar deck, but I lack the Glorybringer. I really like your replacement of the Elder Deep-Fiend with the Gods. I had found the Deep-Fiends to be not quite worth their emerge costs, especially if I only had a Hydra on the battlefield to sac.

How are Nissa and Arlinn working for you in the mainboard? They are probably two of my favorite planeswalkers currently in standard.

djnewellmit: if you like the planeswalker suite, you should get the deck ASAP! It's a total blast to play and probably the only deck I can think of that utilizes Arlinn so well.

To be honest I side out of Nissa almost every match because she's just not impactful enough against any kind of pressure; it's not that she's bad or feels like a bad draw, there's just better options in the sideboard. But in my experience, if you get to land her t3 with no pressure, she closes the game out within two turns. The scrying is so useful in a deck with versatile cards and cheating on mana with already efficient threats... wow. So she really excels in the control matchups, so much so that I would like to make room for another copy so as to draw her earlier in the matches where she's good and get under countermagic!

...but maybe in the sideboard, because Arlinn is a * house in the deck. I'm pretty sure 3-of is actually the right number. Arlinn and the Glorybringers is an almost instant game-over, but Arlinn and the gods is also absolutely nuts. I play the gods package in order to Insta-Stabilize against ground decks, and with arlinn in the mix it's also immediate pressure thanks to vigilance, and she can't die!

It's a bit tricky to play her right, because against any creatures it isn't correct to power her out with a dork t3 and then plus to have her on the correct side for t4 glorybringer + exert. But I've found making the wolf, exerting the glorybringer next turn and bolting something to transform her again is still a powerhouse line of play. Usually wipes the board of any problem creatures, and next turn you just attack with a vigilance-buffed dork while you wait for GB to untap and start the one sided boardwipe.

Anyway I could talk all day about how the deck is so fun and rewarding to play. My basic thoughts are these: nissa probably belongs in the sideboard unless your meta is all controlly, but both she and Arlinn are so impressive I think it's right to go up on copies eventually.
