New cards = new toys —June 6, 2018

  • Spellseeker + Pull from Tomorrow, -Sphinx's Revelation -Sword of War and Peace : A few notes here. I want to try out Spellseeker, because it looks insane. It can tutor up Swords to Plowshares, Enlightened Tutor, Cyclonic Rift, as well as many other cards. I replaced Revelation with Pull for CMC reasons- Spellseeker can hit Pull, but not Revelation. This saddens me greatly, as Revelation is one of my favorite cards to cast in all of Magic, and it works so good with Arbiter thanks to its two-color cost, but having a card that, in a stalled board, can turn Spellseeker into a huge draw spell is too good a synergy to miss. Also, War and Peace was cut because it doesn't work anymore. It used to be able to hit planeswalkers, but now that it can't thanks to the rules changes, its use is effectively dead.

  • Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, - Dragonlord Ojutai : Another cut I'm not 100% happy with, but I want to play Teferi more than I want to keep Ojutai in the deck. Ojutai dies to sweepers and removal (since his hexproof is very fragile), while players run less removal that can outright hit Teferi. He doesn't need to get in combat to draw a card unlike Ojutai, and he allows me to further milk my resources and cast more spells off of them. He can delay threats in a pinch as well, making him incredibly useful, and his ultimate will end the game fast, if I ever get to it. Add on the fact that they're both at the same CMC and it's obvious who gets the slot- although, thanks to his first ability, he effectively costs 1 mana with Arbiter out.
