Deck Update 12-03-16 —Dec. 5, 2016

First update is that the deck was not used on FNM because I wanted to test a different deck as well since I am going to the Showdowns while they are going on. I find that at the Showdowns I am seeing some more faces and different deck designs that make it more interesting to test the deck vs. And back to what You all are more interested in, the results: 3/1 4th place after tie breakers

Match 1: W/U spirit control 1/2

Typical spirit deck that this deck has shown lots of success vs had some unfortunate luck vs. Game 1 mulled down to 5 cards to take a 1 land hand since first 2 hands had 0 lands. Suffered loss in game 1 because I could not get the third land draw for 3 turns putting me just to far behind even though I had a fair number of two drops. Could not get any momentum and lost 0/8. Game 2 was close as we both had good hands, but turned game around because of responder with sticher's graft life linking me to stabilize and eventually win (was at 2 health at one point), end totals were 24/0. Game 3 was another close game where I lost because of top deck dec in stone exiled for value and ended me with final totals being 0/4.

Match 2: U/B/R Grixis Control 2/0

Game 1 I lucked out that my opponent only drew 2 control cards and flooded (20/0). The second game was a victory due to Mirrorwing Dragon side deck and Giddeon. The situation that cause the dragon to lead to victory was because my opponent got his Thing in the Ice to flip and a blue gearhulk on board, I followed up with Mirrorwing and quipping it with sticher's graft to be big enough to defend. How giddeon helped win this is because the 2/2 token he makes was acting as another chump blocker as I was sitting at 2 life. My following draws were always watching allowing me to get swings in over the ground creatures and then another mirrorwing giving me enough defenders for his kill spell he tops the turn after.

Match 3: R/U/G Temur Artifact Colossus 2/0

This deck was an interesting concept. It uses lots of artifacts to help ramp into big spells and reduce the cost of Metalwork Colossus. Their deck is a bit slow moving at times but would be hard to handle with normal decks once it gets moving. Game 1 was victory because Odric hit field turn six after playing angel with garrison and thalia's L on board (ending life 36/0). Game 2 was decided because side deck, brought the card Repel the Abominable in preparation to him using radiant flames and stopped 2 burn attempts to kill my board which put him to far behind to recover because he lacked any field presence because he spent turns trying to burn (ending life 28/0).

Match 4: R/G Energy 2/0

Game 1 my opponent started flooding out at turn 5 and I managed to stay alive from his inertial hand because turn 2 Lone Rider to turn 3 Responder giving me easy lifelink recovery. Game 2 win due to Repel the Abominable stopping an all in attempt from Elrostatic Pummeler going for turn 5 swing. While they did try to play the game out, I was able to put a lot of pressure on them by going wide for win.

The prizes from the special booster were not that great (Fleetwheel Cruiser, junk foil, Padeem), but I did manage to get 1 Smuggler's Copter out of a normal pack that was given as a prize with it. So if I get 1 more I will give it a try in the deck and see how they do in place of Angel of Innovation.

Any comments and questions are welcomed and I will try to respond as soon as I can.

Thanks for the deck idea. I've put together my own budget brew of this for my local FNM meta (Boros Vehicles, G/B Delirium, Izzet Control).

In order to bring down the cost I made the following changes, with effort to maintain the general theme of the deck:

-3 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, -2 Needle Spires, -3 Inspiring Vantage, -1 Rush of Adrenaline

+2 Giant Spectacle (For guaranteed Menace), +2 Nahiri's Machinations (This is used in place of Gideon's +1 for board-wide Indestructible w/ Odric), +3 Stone Quarry (Have only managed to pull 1 Inspiring Vantage from Kaladesh so far), +1 Plains, +1 Mountain (2 extra basics to help with mana fixing since Stone Quarry isn't reliable).

Sideboard is similar, replacing Mirrorwing Dragon with Fragmentize and Tears of Valakut with Uncaged Fury (For 2 more instances of reliable Double Strike).

Thoughts?

Regardless, thanks again!

Smuggler's Copter would be great in this deck. Would win more!

While I like the Copter. It is a card I do not have and isn't very cheap, more affordable now then a month ago but still not cheap. I know you might look at that and think your running 3 Giddeons that are significantly more expensive, but I got those from being lucky with packs. Truth be told if I didn't have Giddeon I would likely be trying cards like Nahiri's Machinations or find some other keyword card to run.

If I was to run the copter I would probably take out the angel to make room for them to speed the deck up and maybe tweak the layout to bring inspector from side back to main deck.

You should also play the red three drop goblin bush whacker like guy! He speeds up your damage cycles and increases the possibility of forcing third and forth turn alpha strikes.

Bush whacker is not good for this deck. His mana cost is just awkwardly placed with the cards in deck that makes him too slow of a card or doesn't do anything to help progress much in the deck. His haste he could spread with Odric is already covered by two cards (Village Messenger  Flip,Hanweir Battlements). He also doesn't fit the human shell that it currently runs. While I do like bushwhaker for decks that go wide, this deck doesn't make that its focus. I have tried the card before which is why I can say I am not a fan of it for this deck. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I honestly think your copter idea is really good for deck and would like to try it out. When I can get the chance to pick up some to test in the deck I will try to let you know how it worked.
