Casual Modern —July 13, 2014

I went to the local card shop to do some play testing with some of the regular Planeswalkers. I played against a R/G land destruction deck, a B/R vampire tribal deck and a tier 1 Melira Pod deck that was net decked. I ended up 6-4 against R/G, 3-2 against B/R and 2-1 against Melira Pod. The most challenging was the B/R vampire deck because I had a hard time dealing with his creatures. The guy playing Melira Pod was amazed that he lost against a tier 2.5 deck. One of my good buddies was playing the R/G deck. All I had to do was side in Duress, save my removal spell for any one of his creatures and just keep making him discard his LD spells. Anyways, to say the least, my fellow Planeswalkers were not happy with the results of the matches we played. Plus, no one expected to get their ass handed to them by a MBC deck wih infect as it's win con.

Yes, monoblack infect is so great! I run a more budget version of this but with the same goal! Have you thought about running Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon ? Maybe a little expensive in terms of mana cost but is a fast and evasive finisher. +1

I like your list! I run a similar deck with Vampire Nighthawk over Vatmother. I just found that sometimes Vatmother was too slow and too easily chumped, and Nighthawk at least always helped me stabilize. One card that has been amazing for me is Bojuka Bog . So many decks in Modern rely on graveyard synergy. Sure you can side in Leylines, but Bog is uncounterable and it's free to play. You can pitch it to Raven's crime and it doesn't hurt your mana base. I was running 3, but due to its success in matches, I upgraded to 4 maindeck.

I found that this deck has a lot of trouble with token generators like Lingering Souls or Young Pyromancer . I put 3 Drown in Sorrow in the board and they have been great. I bring them in against a variety of other decks. I also like Geth's Verdict to take care of hexproof, indestructible and protection issues. With a mostly black mana base I don't see the necessity of devour flesh. I've also found that Disfigure is great, but maybe 4 is too many, since there are many threats it doesn't help against.

Nice infect deck, +1 of course. :)

I'd go for the second Devour Flesh . It's good against hexproof.

If you ever think about splicing a colour, take a look at my Rakdos Infection. I've splashed red and the results have been pretty cool.

+1 Great deck. What do you think of a Dark Betrayal or two sideboarded to replace Doom Blade if you're playing against black?
