Over a decade later, I'm still always giddy talking about my best draft deck ever, getting all the way to last game undefeated without ever dealing a single point of damage. one gatecrash draft in Wasilla Alaska, barely out of high school, I had got bought into the FNM by one of the regulars, and sat down to open first pick Consuming Aberration, and get passed a Mind Grind. I very quickly had very entertaining and surprisingly potent direction. I'm going to have to put my best guesses all these years later to the exact card totals for everything, but surrounded by a pile of 2s and 3s of dimir mill support, was my 6 Devour Flesh, who's downside is laughable when you're never touching their life total in any other manner.
unfortunately i didnt finish the tournament, i had a very poor mental health moment halfway through game one of the final round (was playing someone of very poor feeling around, and too just exist with stability issues) and left the space in a breakdown state. this is actually where my collection got stolen, and is the point in which i stopped playing paper magic. Save for like khans and kaladesh prereleases its just been cockatrice since. BUT ANYWAY that part of this memory being nestled right beside my favorite draft memory has always sucked and I wanted to write down to the best my memory that magnificent list to help me celebrate that more.
side note consolation on the collection being stolen that night. very thankfully i had just earlier that night traded away my Christopher Rush signed All Hallow's Eve to one of the regulars, just for a bunch of generic value, but not as special cards, and I'm happy that that went on to him, and not the two who split my stuff.
