Unstoppable Force meets Immovable Object —Aug. 20, 2020

Brief Summary

The first few turns were spent ramping as one does. First commander on the board was Siona, Captain of the Pyleas. She dug for combo pieces, & whiffed (but a turn 4 combo win wouldn't have been that much fun?). Jozi cast a couple of Auras and made a few of her tokens before swinging once at Vanarp on T5.

Sometime around T6, Androo dropped Dictate of Erebos, which effectively locked Surge and Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca out of the game. Using Goblin Bombardment or Carrion Feeder, Androo was able to keep a relatively clear board using the free sac outlets and Dictate.

Not wanting to fall to a similar fate as Surge, Jozi dropped Sigarda, Host of Herons, letting Korvold know what time it was. This put Korvold and Siona at a bit of a stalemate.

Turns 8-14(?) in a nutshell were:

• Vanarp & Jozi took turns trying to chip away at Androo, meanwhile, Androo tried to kill Sigarda by any means possible. Any removal thrown at Androo's board was quickly fizzled by Goblin Bombardment sacs on stack, and paired with Dictate, kept boards mostly clear, and chipped away at life totals.

• Sigarda avoided death numerous times, and punched Androo in the face for about 22 damage over 3 turns, but it was not enough.

• Vanarp filled his yard with Keyword soup creatures for Kathril, Aspect Warper to voltron it out as an 11/11 flying/indestructible/trample/hexproof/first strike/double strike/protection from red & black

• Jozi recast Siona 3 times to try to find Shielded by Faith, and was able to cast it on the 3rd try, to start the Siona, Captain of the Pyleas + Shielded by Faith combo (Aura gets cast & gets attached to a creature, Siona makes a token, Shield sees a new creature & can move to it, Siona sees an Aura attached to a new creature and creates another token, etc etc), but it was too late, and Jozi did not have other necessary combo pieces onboard. In the process, the Siona digging moved removal and other juicy cards to the bottom of the deck.

• Having used the Siona + Shielded by Faith combo, Jozi created 400 human soldier tokens as a Hail Mary. Jozi could not survive a full round with the tokens out, and was taken out by Vanarp who had enough flying offense to get over the token army, and dust off the rest of Jozi's 11 life.

• Androo and Vanarp then raced to see who could get enough damage through to close the game out. Androo ultimately won through using lots of stacking damage from Goblin Bombardment sacs, Dictate of Erebos, Poison-Tip Archer and a Rite of Consumption
