Maybeboard discussion —Feb. 13, 2016

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far everyone! I probably won't swap anything until I can play a bit more with this list, but I'd like to get some feedback on the maybeboard cards. A few I will try to work in soon, like Gravecrawler and In Garruk's Wake, but here are some others I'd like to discuss:

  • Does Cauldron of Souls make sense to run, given the number of board wipes and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is in the deck?
  • I'm thinking Lifeline might be a fun interaction with Kalitas and board wipes.
  • Could something janky like Wail of the Nim be decent enough to make this list, since it wipes mana dorks/utility creatures while also providing regeneration from most board wipes?

Cabal Coffers but no Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth! but looks like a fun deck.

Thanks Lost_Ascendant! I didn't put Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in because it too often enables my opponents and I don't have a spare around right now. I might consider it in the future if I'm really going for big mana.

even if it enables opponents its still worth running. the jump in mana you get is always worth it.

I did put Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in the deck, no regrets.

Regarding Kalitas getting rid of Planeswalkers, if he told you he'd have to kill you.

If you want even more value out of Urborg, you could run Filth. Get him in the yard with Urborg in play and have fun with all your creatures being unblockable.

Why are you running Mikaeus? he doesn't really seem to do anything useful here other than lording and killing humans who hit you. If you're not taking advantage of his other ability then why run him?

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is in here to get extra value from the nontoken vampires and zombies that may be sacrificed, and also to help maintain a board state when I cast one of the several board wipes in the deck. I have yet to play a game with him in the deck yet, but several of my previous games would have gone much differently if Mikaeus was on the field. Plus as you mention, he is a passive kill effect and a lord, both of which work well for this deck.

Sorry I missed the Filth comment in my last reply Wooshadoodle. The possible swampwalk is useful, but really my goal for the deck is to keep the board as clear of other player's creatures which makes the ability less useful overall. As I play the deck I'll keep the card in mind, thanks!
