Glad you like it Bobs_Army.

It’s faster and more consistent as expected and does really well so far. After some more testing and some tweaks it could be a great deck.

I would love to see a casual optimized version of this list for friendly multiplayer pods outside of the draft format. It looks like it is so much fun already. I would love to see a refined list. Looking forward to the potential upcoming primer.

Here's a real gem that nobody seems to know exists: Krosan Drover :)

Thx for that suggestion Angry_Potatoes. Believe it or not, I know it. Didn’t include it because it only affects 18 cards in the deck and mana hasn’t been a problem so far. Maybe I’ll include it later after more testing and refining when the deck shifts to more creatures with cmc 6+

No Worldly Tutor/Sylvan Tutor/Mystical Tutor? Are you avoiding repetitive gameplay, or do you not like Cascade into them?

Apologies if I missed something in the primer or anything explaining

You don’t miss anything Omniscience_is_life. My plan was to add worldly tutor and tooth and nail after some testing when I know what to cut. Wasn’t sure about mystical because it doesn’t have too much targets. After testing however I changed my mind on that. It would indeed lead to repetitive gameplay. You already can draw and play the majority of your deck turn 5-6, when you hit Kodama, omniscience or Nyxbloom it’s often an instant win. Adding more tutors would make the game pretty boring imho, it’s a lot of fun already how it is and I stay away from any more tutors and may even cut survival of the fittest. On top of library tutors are stupidly good with cascade obviously but would ruin the fun of piloting the deck to some degree.

I usually try to tone the tutors down a bit to make playing the deck more challenging. Only exception is my Xyris which is made for really high powered tables and runs a lot to go off with more consistency.

I’m a relatively new player to commander. Could you please break down how the stack looks like with cascade triggers and Aetherflux Reservoir please? I’m having a hard time visualizing it. List looks awesome!

Heya WarSpaniel, I’m glad you like it. It’s a blast to play and surprisingly fast. I’ll try to explain it as clearly as possible.

Let’s say you start the turn with Imoti on the field and hit a cascade chain of 3 spells after casting aetherflux.

Casting aetherflux will be you first spell for the turn but doesn’t give you any life now since it’s not on the Field already. Now you cast a big spell like Ghalta for example that discounts itself. The moment you cast it there are 2 triggers, cascade and AF-reservoir. You put the AF on the stack first so that it resolves last. You start to resolve your cascade triggers and flip cards unti you hit something with less cmc, let’s say a 6 cmc spell. Now you cast that spell and get again a cascade and AF trigger. You again put the AF trigger first so it resolves last and start cascading from your 6 cmc spell first. Now you hit something with 4 cmc and there will be no cascade anymore, just the AF trigger. Your stack looks now like this from top to bottom: AF, 4 cmc, AF, 6 cmc, AF, Ghalta. Your first AF trigger resolves and sees 4 spells cast this turn, your reservoir and the 3 from the cascade, so you get 4 life. Now your 4 cmc spell resolves normally. Your 2nd AF trigger resolves and again sees the 4 spells you’ve cast this turn and gives you also 4 life. Then your 6 cmc spell resolves normally. Finally your 3rd AF trigger resolves, again seeing 4 spells and giving you 4 life. Finally the spell that started the cascade chain resolves, in this case ghalta, and the stack is cleared again.

I hope this is not too confusing.

Thank you for your quick response. I really appreciate the in depth explanation. I have one more question, for that series of events to work in the way you explained. Do you have to hold priority throughout until you’re done casting/cascading? Thank you

Pikobyte says... #17

That doesn’t matter WarSpaniel. If you want to cast multiple spells at instant-speed to stack the AF triggers that way it would be better to do that, but in case of cascade you don’t need to since you can stack the triggers in any way you want if they trigger the same time. And both cascade and the AF both trigger on cast

Thanks again, I have one last question now related to your first response regarding Ghalta in regards to a cascade chain. How can you cast Ghalta if Aetherflux Reservoir is still on the stack?

January 29, 2021 3:41 p.m.

Pikobyte says... #19

Maybe I was a bit confusing there WarSpaniel. Aetherflux has to be resolved and on the field, you don’t cast ghalta in response. The reason I included aetherflux in my example turn was just to make clear that aetherflux counts the total number of spells cast in a single turn even before it is on the field. Like let’s say you cast 4 spells, cast aetherflux then as your 5th spell and let it resolve. The next spell will then be your 6th and give you 6 life then, not 1. Or if you hit a cascade chain of 3 spells it will be your 6th, 7th and 8th spell and give you 3x8 life. Sry for not making clear that you have to resolve aetherflux in my first answer

Thoughts on Keruga, the Macrosage ?

Love the deck, by the way. :)

Pikobyte says... #21

Heya EldraziMimic, I’m glad you like it. Had keruga in there first but did cut it. I already have a massive draw to the point where i could deck myself if i play something like keruga. I often end with like 30-40 cards in my hand and <10 in my library. Keruga would just kill me if I play it late or if I decide not to play it it’s just a dead card or wasted cascade trigger. Since more draw isn’t needed i decided to cut it and eliminate it as a potential dead card.

That's fair. I really love this deck, I'm going to have to make my own version with 100% more Impervious Greatwurm just because I like big things. :p

What are your thoughts on the new stuff?

Heya EldraziMimic. I was pretty excited for In Search of Greatness until I realized it has to be exact that cmc and not „or less“.
