Updated for BfZ! —Oct. 2, 2015
Hey guys, the primer is now updated for Battle for Zendikar! I've included a new section for multicolor allies, added a tier list for the allies, and added a host of support cards. One note on the support cards: I will try to update the list to keep up, however there are way too many cards in magic that can work well with decks, so don't expect me to add every single one.
The only thing that hasn't been updated yet is the decklists, and that will come very soon.
Oh and there are likely to still be errors since I haven't proofed this yet, so if you point them out I can fix them tomorrow.

the R/W one? sets up well for coco. But, other than that, I rather have coco or gideon, or the older allies like talus paladin

It's sad that most of the new allies until now are high CMC. The second one-drop Ally seems more and more unlikely. At least Allies are rollin now in the spoilers. Did you see the 5cmc RW one that grants Double Strike? Pretty good, but that 5 CMC though.

I think Munda is actually quite good. Being able to set up your deck for retaliation vs a removal-heavy matchup can be nuts, especially if you have CoCo in hand. Not game breaking, but definitely powerful; Gives R/W allies some serious reach

OnyxPariah My biggest concern with most of the new Allies is that they aren't CoCo'able in Naya/5C builds .

Munda becomes pretty decent if you play somewhat grindy with Descendants' Path. It takes some setting up, but I think getting a free Ally trigger (regardless of CMC!) every turn is great. I anticipated the Double Strike- granting Ally but thought he would be costed a bit more aggressively, this makes him at most a curvetopper to finish the game, where other cards might be just as good (casting Overwhelming Stampede or Flying Crane Technique for example, despite lowering your Ally count).

Just realized playing Munda with Descendant's path also allows you to manipulate your draw for the turn. Seems pretty strong, if it isn't too slow. Which it sadly will likely be.

Nef Even though I'm not a fan of Munda, I have to say that getting real Allies is better than Ally tokens because the real Allies have triggers themselves too.
It seems all the Allies are >=3 CMC beaters until now, I don't know if that will be a problem for the Modern aggro versions.

The new Skyrider Elf (XGU Flying, Converge for +1/+1) seemed pretty good at first, but since you can't cheat it into play without it dying (so no Vial or Company) it suddenly got a lot worse for me. Also, the colors are probably only something for 5C Allies or something with GU.

Getting real allies might be better but it also requires two cards and is much slower. And is more colors. This is all my opinion tho

Munda does seem pretty cool, I think maybe it could fit in another build, like midrange. so I agree that it works more with descendants path.

I wish dramas emissarys effect also triggered when an ally entered

Just had a game where I couldn't handle a Restauration Angel until it beat me to death. What to do against flying creatures? There's a flying Ally Bird I think, but I don't see people running it. Why?

Well I run a single Abzan Falconer atm which can do the trick. I also have 3 Ondu Cleric which helps a lot by keeping the life total up. I also have 4 Path to Exile to get rid of creatures I can't deal with.

BrionacThe bird works pretty well, I'd suggest giving it a try. I've recently cut it, but wouldn't be surprised if I put it back. Its great for evasion.

Well good thing I read through all the comments yesterday. aubman02 my message box said you mentioned me. Any idea what you wrote back then?
Anyway, on to new spoiler discussion:March from the Tomb allows us to mass resurrect up to 4 average Allies (by average I mean 2 CMC) for 5 mana or less bigger Allies. It's expensive, Return to the Ranks to the Ranks is probably more effective as it can be cast for less, but March has more value compared to a 5 mana Ranks.

After some testing, I would like more protection for my Allies. Running out of gas was key for the control decks I lost to yesterday. Thought about trying out the Naya list for reliable mana for Boros Charm. The article talks about probably replacing AEther Vials with Hardened Scales. I wonder why, I mean, can't we have both and Coco too? Would you run Scales over Vial?
I love the high +1/+1 Ally amount that All-in Allies provide, but as far as I've seen, the mana isn't consistent enough to have reliable access to non-Ally multi-colored cards like Boros Charm.
Another option would be something like Apostel's Blessing. I mean, we could Vial into Evangel, but I have yet to pull that off (I usually leave Vial at 2 because most Allies are 2 CMC).

I've started using ephemeral shields...but yeah, that's the problem if you want to run boros charm. Going against control is tough. I think those type of decks are dedicated to dealing with aggro decks though. Even then, it would be nice to come up with a way to deal with it without messing with the original build too much.
Brionac, it might be another list I mentioned you in...

March from the tombs I think will go in the sideboard...wish it had convoke, but even then, its good for the long grindy games you see against control.

Allies!
March from the Tomb makes a strat using Hagra Diabolist somewhat viable! Imagine, best cast, you bring out a Diabolist, an Ondu Cleric and a Hada Freeblade -- What a turn, and even more if you already have a Diabolist out.
Could easily do an Abzan deck too for even more ramp.

aubman02 What did you take out of your build for the Ephemeral Shields?

Opinions on the newly spoiled Munda, Amubush Leader? Not playable, isn't it? That 4CMC and he doesn't bring any advantage (as in something into your hand).
