@munky702I can get behind Neoform. It was already on my radar but you make a good point about redundancy for my main combo. Not sure what I'd cut... maybe Worldly Tutor as they fill a similar role but I'm open to suggestions.

I'd keep worldly tutor. It's not a bad card to have. If anything I'd cut one of the bigger things. Maybe like, Oblivion sower, since it defeats the purpose of ancestral statue and some of the other options. Another suggestion I have to offer would be Kiri-Onna since you can have another infinite Mana line with her metamorph and one of your Mana untappers. Or instead of untappers, you can even use man-o-'war and return all your opponents stuff to their hands and swing in comfortably

@munky702 - I don't run Oblivion Sower. Any suggestions for a cut for Neoform that's actually in the deck lol. I'm not sure Kiri is needed, I have Shrieking Drake, Man o' War, and Dream Stalker already and they all cost less mana (or more accurately, less counters). Is targeting my opponents' stuff (outside of a donated Gilded Drake bwahaha) worth it?

Oh It looked like you did. I was fallen asleep when I wrote that. Must had been in your maybe board. I guess Kiri isn't all that necessary. I'm honestly though half tempted in saying just take a land lol.

What a name for a deck, haha.

I used to run Animar. Super nasty, but super fun (for you). Looks similar to the one I used to run. Glad to see Animar is still going strong. +1!

This is pretty wild. I just recently got Animar and loved him as an Eldrazi Commander. He was pulling too high of a threat level from my play group because of big Eldrazi. He is slowly turning into a deck like this. Which some think its not a threat, which makes me laugh. I love it

This is why I like transmute 2 counters on animar, 1 red, 1 green, 3 blue, 1 colorless, and a blue or green for example Imperial into metamorph to copy imperial grabbing fierce empath grabbing dead eye navigator Soulbound metamorph and copy imperial for pegerine drake to untap then infinitely tap for infinite mana Once the table understands, you then copy imperial recruiter for a bounce creature like shrieking drake to bounce fierce empath for soul of harvests (because it says etb while beast whisperer says cast) Then draw your whole deck and drop down one of your win cons Trying to do yugioh combos in mtg lol

That spellseeker thing is neat and I would like to try it as well but im really iffy on not cheating costs when you have to pay actual mana for spells Also how much protection is too much? I feel like people start to single out animar if they know it has swift infinites

Are you talking about using neoform?

October 8, 2019 1:44 a.m.

munky702 says... #9

With using neoform, it cost less Mana to actually play comparatively. 2 counters, RBBG and 4 life can win you the game on the spot. Having a handful of counter spells to actually protect the combo whilst going off is the best way. Force, pact, swan, or cards like that are your best bets. Arcane denial also works if you have the Mana to make it work.

currently i have willbender, siren stormtamer, spellskite, lightning greaves, swan song, draining whelk, kadena's silencer, strats dancer blossoming defense, muddle the mixture

i dislike getting focused after a few games of people realzng it can be consistent

I'd recommended swapping one of those non creatures for Glen elendra and dispel. If you can, Veil of summer

Holy crap, I didn't realize I'd become 'that guy' about responding to people on my own decks...

@darkmeta - I'm having a hard time following your combo (post #32) but I think it works. Thing is it costs at least 8 mana and as far as I can tell, it costs 8+ no matter what. My main go-to combo can start with Imperial Recruiter which costs 6 mana + 2 counters, Spellseeker which costs 5 mana + 2 counters, or it starts with Weird Harvest which costs 4 mana and 3 counters. The redundancy in this combo line makes it VERY reliable.

, , or respectively.

@munky702 - I could use more counter magic from time to time but I'd start with Stubborn Denial and SwanSong if I went the non-creature route or I'd re-add Draining Whelk (which very well may happen). Glen Elendra has been in the deck for years lol. I also dropped my big Eldrazi and Craterhoof (Ulamog may make it back in to keep the shuffle effect present.)

To All: Thanks for all the compliments, feedback, upvotes, and support... keep it coming. Even if I'm bad at replying sometimes I still take good advice. Neoform made it in and it's a damn solid addition.

Not to tell you how to play your own deck, but you have one of the most optimized line in the deck. 2 counters and and 4 life. Playing recruiter into metamorph, making it recruiter searching for spellseeker. Seeker into neoform, neoforming the seeker into statue bouncing all over the place, then bouncing metamorph back into recruiter into ballista. Seems complicated and hope it actually made sense. But as we know, animar can do anything it wants.

Itd be UUUUGRC if you had 2 counters on animar to begin with (pegerine drake self pays for the second souldbond proc on metamorph) or else add CCCCC which would make it 12 mana instead of 7. Ill type it out better.

Optimally Animar has 2 counter

Play Imperial Recruiter to add Phyrexian Metamorph

(2 life) Play Phyrexian Metamorph copying Imperial Recruiter to add Fierce Empath

Play Fierce Empath to add Dead-Eye Navigator

Play Dead-Eye Navigator and Soulbound to Phyrexian Metamorph

Proc Exile and Phyrexian Metamorph copies Imperial Recruiter to add Pegerine Drake

Play Pegerine Drake to untap 2 Blue lands and whatever else

(XX) Proc Exile to produce infinite Mana using Pegerine Drake Copies

(XX) Proc Exile to copy Fierce Empath to add Soul of the Harvest

(XX) Play Soul of the Harvest and now you can draw your whole deck and drop any win con

Hella complicated though

Im still very new to mtg despite how my build looks (I don't know some of my basic rulings) so ill happily take criticism and learn combos from others who've played the deck for some time. Animar is my first commander deck btw. I still see this spellseeker combo its very efficient in mana cost with 2 animar counters being BGGCC being just 5 (add R for imperial) so its superior to mine. Will definitely need to add and rethink my build. Only thing mine would be better is for if someone does something odd like teferis protection where I just then use cloudstone or equilibrium to deck them out with oblivion sower.

@munky702 - I stand corrected. Neoform is honestly one of my newest additions and I didn't realize that line was a thing. Thanks.

@darkmeta - I don't run DEN is the only problem I have, but looking at things Temur Sabertooth substitutes just fine. Deadeye doesn't stick in my meta because the card has a reputation whereas Sabertooth doesn't.

Last_Laugh says... #16

@darkmeta - Teferi's Protection won't save them... you combo off and have Walking Ballista already out and waiting for their upkeep.

I run den protector and finale of devastation just so I can get certain combo pieces back from the yard, just in case. Neoform is such a great overall card. I'm glad you're enjoying the deck!

Have you considered Spearbreaker Behemoth ? I have put it into my animar deck to protect against boardwipes and rebuild the board swiftly

Any thought about adding Yedora, Grave Gardener ?

April 24, 2021 1:34 a.m.

Last_Laugh says... #21

Quacs - I wouldn't run it in Animar personally. Are you hoping to sac stuff for mana? Boardwipe recovery? Midgame mana isn't usually a problem in Animar... it's overextending into a boardwipe that's the most common problem (that and people running astronomically high avg. cmc's and/or not enough lands). You'd be better served with early ramp or card draw imo.

Seems like a lot of fun? However, is there a way to make it a tad bit budget?

Lose 6 off-color fetches, food chain, gilded drake, Earthcraft, Worldly Tutor, and Gaea's Cradle. Also switching out foils for non-foil will significantly lower the cost of cards like Equilibrium (minus almost $500 just for this one card), Cloudstone Curio, and Animar himself.

These 11 cards (+3 foils) will lower the cost by over $2000.

Oh, and Survival of the Fittest too (available in gold border championship edition if you playgroup doesn't care... no idea how much it is now though)
