Yet Another Aether Vortex

Enchantment

All creatures have haste.

Players play with the top card of their libraries revealed.

Noninstant, nonsorcery cards on top of a library are on the battlefield under their owner's control in addition to being in that library.

In regular Magic, any effect that might result in a fractional result will specifically tell you which way to round, so there's no default rule for it.

In Un-Magic, you're encouraged to be a little creative with interpretations where the rules aren't clear and you're able to come up with something fun that makes sense and is agreeable to each player. The fractions in Unhinged were meant to just interact with life totals and P/T, and other things weren't strictly defined. For Protean Hydra, maybe you could turn one of the +1/+1 counters into a +1/+0 or +0/+1 counter. For Mindcrank, maybe one of the cards could be simultaneously in the graveyard and the library until it moves somewhere else (like on Yet Another Aether Vortex or Masterful Ninja).

Or, to keep it simple, you could just come to an agreement with the other players on a fixed rounding convention for Saute when dealing with odd interactions like this.

This contains Unstable cards, so I'll acknowledge that there might not be a working answer (Like Far Out and Outlaws Merriment).

Say I control Yet Another Aether Vortex. The top card of my library happens to be Grist, the Hunger Tide.

Grist is on the battlefield, meaning he wouldn't be an insect. However, he's also in my library, which is not the battlefield (Which would normally make him an insect).

Is this Grist an Insect Creature?

Note that Yet Another Aether Vortex received new rulings in 2020 which state that permanents "enter" the battlefield when they become the top card of your deck. This means that enters-tapped lands will be tapped. See Gatherer for details.

Yet Another Aether Vortex doesn't specify that the card enters the battlefield, just that it is on the battlefield, so I would say no, Boomstacker doesn't enter the battlefield and thus gets no dice. It just is on the battlefield already.

It's like how Masterful Ninja's first ability doesn't actually trigger any ETB abilities (per its rulings), it's just on the battlefield and in your hand simultaneously until end of turn.

StopShot on How would you "normalize" an …

One thing that has always bothered me about unset cards is that they can not be used in real formats. Some of them have gimmicks that would be pretty great if you could work around the physical and rules-nightmare aspects of them however.

The goal of this thread is to redesign ("normalize") any unset card to make it appropriate enough for sanctioned play. When redesigning the card try to stick to the flavor of the card as best you can. Here are some cards I have redesigned as examples: (Please make sure to include a link to the card you are redesigning.)

Card: Yet Another AEther Vortex

Redesigned Name: AEther Time-Rift

CMC: Same

Card Type: Same

Text: All creatures have haste.

Players play with the top card of their libraries revealed.

Whenever a permanent card is revealed from the top of any player's library that player creates a token copy of that permanent except its name is AEther Clone.

Whenever the top card of a player's library changes zones or the card order of their library changes that player exiles all tokens named Aether Clone that they control before revealing the top card of their library.

P/T: None.

Card: Cardpecker

Redesigned Name: Timber Hallower

CMC: Same

Card Type: Same

Text: Flying

Timber Hallower gets +1/+0 so long as an opponent controls an untapped Forest or Swamp. ((Woodpeckers thrive in woodland areas.))

Whenever an opponent shuffles their library or puts a card on the bottom of their library you may return Timber Hallower from your graveyard to your hand. ((Most players normally touch the table when picking up their deck to shuffle.))

Flavor Text: To some groves a blessing. To others an affliction.

P/T: 1/1
