Xenagos God Of Revels question

Asked by AkadeannaH 7 years ago

so I was playing my fiance and his Xenagos deck last night and I'm confused about something; shouldn't his combat +X/+X affect be affected by summoning sickness? What about if it's still an enchantment because of the devotion to red/green is under 7?

Abilities aren't affected by summoning sickness unless they cause the creature to tap. His ability also works as an enchantment, there's no clause saying he must be a creature.

Link all cards in your question.
Xenagos, God of Revels

No. Summoning sickness only affects whether the creature can attack or activate abilities with the or symbols in their costs. It doesn't affect triggered abilities. It also only affects creatures.

@Simon_Williamson: You have to be careful when describing summoning sickness; your answer is slightly inaccurate.

Abilities with the or symbol in their costs are unable to be activated. However, an ability that uses "tap" as a word can still be activated (e.g., you can activate Azami, Lady of Scrolls's ability even if Azami has summoning sickness).

You can use double square brackets to link cards. It's the easiest way to make sure everyone reading your question knows what's going on: Xenagos, God of Revels

"Summoning sickness" stops a creature from either attacking or using one of its abilities with the symbol in the activation cost if it hasn't been on the battlefield long enough. Having haste cancels out summoning sickness. Xenagos' ability can trigger on the same turn he enters the battlefield, and the creature he gives the bonus to gets haste (it's unclear from your question exactly what you're asking in regards to summoning sickness).

Xenagos' devotion ability only affects whether or not he's a creature. He will still have his other ability if the controller's devotion to red/green is less than 7.

Xenagos, God of Revels works as an enchantment, as you can see it doesn't say 'If Xenagos is a creature's

Summoning sickness prevents a creature from tapping on its own. Tjis means if I have a Merfolk Looter I both cannot attack or tap it until my upkeep after I summon, unless it has haste. Conversely I could tap the creature with an ability from a different card such as Triplicate Spirits, and if an ability does not involve it tapping it can be used the turn it is summon such as Shivan Dragons fire breathing.
