What is "Playing a land?"

Asked by PhotogenicParasympathetic 3 years ago

I'm looking at Pangosaur - does it trigger each time a land enters play, or does it only trigger during a player's (usually one) land drop for turn?

No, Pangosaur doesn't trigger each time a land enters the battlefield.

"Playing a land" is a "special action" that you can take on your turn while the stack is empty. This is notably different than "putting a land into play" (like on Growth Spiral) which is just a variation of putting a permanent onto the battlefield. This is why you can Cultivate and then play the land that you put into your hand, because you didn't play a land with Cultivate, you put on into play. Pangosaur will only trigger when someone "plays a land".

Hope this helps!!

The action word "Play"

this includes playing lands and casting spells. This word can be found on Outpost Siege.

This means that you can cast spells from outpost siege and play lands from outpost siege

The action word "put" can be found on Ugin, the Spirit Dragon's ultimate.

"Put" refers to any permanent based off of what the card says.

The action word "cast" can be found on Omniscience.

Omniscience says "cast" not "play". So you cant use omniscience to "play" lands. And additionally you are never casting lands
