Do my multi-colored creatures count as Green?

Asked by BringerOfStorms 8 years ago

Hello All,

For the sake of reducing the casting cost of Khalni Hydrado my multi-colored creatures such as Centaur Healer, Knight of New Alara and Wilt-Leaf Liege count as Green?

Thank you in advance for any help,~ BoS

Yes. Any instance of in the mana symbol, whether it be (Birthing Pod),(Reaper King),(Wilt-Leaf Liege), all contribute to green devotion(Karametra's Acolyte) or for determining the cards that care about whether a creature is green or not(Khalni Hydra).

So, yes, those listed cards would count as green creatures.

Note: Green tokens (via Avenger of Zendikar) count towards making Khalni Hydra cheaper because they are green creature tokens.

Edit: Thundering Tanadon is a better example than Birthing Pod as the Thundering Tanadon also counts for Khalni Hydra's ability while the Pod doesn't.

Yes,

a multicolored spell counts for all colors represented in the casting costs. So all cards you mentioned will activate the triggered ability of Khalni Hydra, reducing its mana costs.

@ PartyJ

Note: Triggered abilities are not activated. Triggered abilities trigger and activated abilities are activated. Khalni Hydra's ability is not a triggered ability. Those are begun by words such as "When", "whenever", and "If". This ability is a static ability that adds a cost reduction to the total casting cost of Khalni Hydra.

Mana Cost + Additional Costs - Cost Reductions = Required Mana to successfully cast the spell.

The above equation is the basis for determining the amount to pay for casting a spell. The bolded snippet is where Khalni Hydra's static ability comes into account.
