Can I hit multiple Skreds to Boros Reckoner without him dying before damage?

Asked by EverythingIsK 8 years ago

Say I have 6 Snow-Covered Mountains, a Boros Reckoner, and a Chandra, Pyromaster with enough loyalty to ult. I ult Chandra and hit skred. I copy it three times and target my reckoner with all the copies to deal 18 damage to it and then hit the reckoner's damage to my opponent for lethal. He would normally die after the first skred, but does the stack fizzle the other copies when he's below 0 toughness?

Thanks in advance.

No. Only 1 copy of Skred will resolve, and only 1 copy of Skred will deal damage to Boros Reckoner, and Boros Reckoner's ability will only trigger once.

  • Every time a spell resolves, players recieve priority
  • Every time a player would receive priority, state-based actions are checked.
  • Every time state-based actions are checked, creatures with lethal damage on them get destroyed and moved to the graveyard.
  • Since Boros Reckoner is no longer on the battlefield when the second and third copies Skred would resolve, those copies have 0 legal targets, and will be countered upon resolution.

Now if your reckoner has 13 or more toughness, we have a different conversation. Or if he's indestructible (Boros Charm, Izzet Charm, Azorius Charm for infinite life :P)

Note that damage does not reduce toughness. Skred will never bring Boros Reckoner to 0 toughness; it just marks damage on it.
