I need help finding a deck

Standard Deck Help forum

Hey there! I haven't played since 2015 and am looking to get back into it, so I need a new deck!

While I used to play Black/White and have a love for it, I'm open to all colors

Looking for something in the $130-$160 ish range maybe? I just want something decent to get me eased back into it, but won't just get immediately obliterated

thanks!

RDW is tier one aggro deck that consistently puts up wins for me. Here's my build My deck:

. Minus the chandra's and it's in your price range. It's also a easier learning curve then other decks.

Simple decks to build are tribal decks and midrange decks. Tribal is easy as you get a 'lord' (for example Lord of the Accursed for zombies), buffing your creatures of the same type. Merfolk is good for this, as there are about a million of these 'lords', for example Lord of Atlantis. Merfolk is also in your price range.

Honestly you might want to wait a week or two for RIX spoilers to start before you make a decision.

True but tbh Temur energy and RDW won't see much difference will more than likely remain tier 1

December 20, 2017 7:02 p.m.

Granted, but neither of those are competitive if you don't spend the money for it. Something like merfolk or vampires has budget options right now, plus discard and wb control are close to being viable too. It all depends on the cards in RIX. Or you can spend the good money on decks that are already established and aren't getting much better and pray to Urza that hatebears doesn't get any more support.

RDW minus hazoret and chandra is fairly budget tbh.

Mines 228 and that's with 4 hazoret and a Chandra.

December 20, 2017 9:36 p.m.

Right. That's more than OP wanted to spend, and that's not even for the real Tier 1 version. Plus I really don't think we need another person playing ramunap red or temur energy in standard rn. Part of the fun is the mix of strategies, and playing against the same two decks is getting boring. Variety is okay too. That's all im saying.

And RDW without Chandra or Hazoret is budget because it doesn't have the reach to win.

Lol mine was winning on turn 3 and minus hazoret is 80 bucks cheaper drop chandra and that's another 35. Pretty sure 113 was right in his budget but sure give the guy a 40 dollar budget deck that goes 0-4 at FNM that just might get good if rivals of Ixalan gives the decks what they are missing. I get the bias to decks that win but the simple fact is if he's getting back in to magic they are the decks that win FNM prize support. I'll take my 10 booster packs for going 4-0 over trying to be that guy running some random jank homebrew .

I didn't mean to trigger you. I get it. I ran temur energy for a while. It did well. Im just saying there is another set coming out soon, one that just might maybe have some decent cards in it, so rather than buy 112$ worth of cards now and playing the mirror hoping no one spent more, maybe just hold off to see what happens. RDW isn't the only archetype you can win with, and several different archetypes that have good matchups against mono-red aggro are a few key cards away from being really strong. Hatebears, merfolk, vampires, and w/u control are all semi-viable as is. Those are all established archetypes and all of them, including yours, started out as homebrew jank. I think you are allowed to consider more than one opinion. Your deck is aggro, you don't need to be.

Just because a deck is cheap doesn't mean it's bad. If you want a simple deck, burn is your best option. You can use this as an example.

Adding 4 Hazoret the Fervents will keep you in your price range. So will adding 2 Chandra, Torch of Defiances.

It's possible to win on turn 3. Here's how it goes:

T1:Mountain, Soul-Scar Mage

T2:Mountain, two Consuming Fervors on Soul-Scar Mage. Attack for 9.

T3:Two Shocks. Attack for 7. Win.

Amen it's a solid deck before hazoret and chandra they just push it over the top. I'm just trying to give op a deck that can win at FNM. If his local card shop has prize support he has a shot at booster packs which can help him grow his collection. I grinded my way back into magic with a budget version of RDW that I've tweaked to perfection. Just think he should start with a deck that puts up wins and is easy to pilot.
