OH MY GOD. YES. HYPE ALL THE WAY. I AM A HAPPY CAMPER.

Preemptive opinion: Yes, fetchlands, can we move on please? To ask about fetchlands is to insult Zendikar's awesomeness. Fetches are awesome, but it's the drop in the bucket.

Dragons vs Eldrazi coming to a Standard tournament near you this fall.

Blood, Sweat, Tears, and Fears seemed like an obvious reference to Zendikar to me.

I am so hoping for Annihilator to come back; more and different Eldrazi! (And will Wizards make a different Gideon? Both now aren't that good)

March 6, 2015 4:11 p.m.

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.

Holy sh** am I exited. My very favorite world is coming back. Eldrazi are coming back. Beautiful art for the lands are coming back. Pure awesomeness is coming back.

Oh, and wizards, if you disappoint me with this set, I am quitting MTG. No joke.

So assuming the ZEN fetches will be reprinted, what do you think the value of the ZEN fetches will be post reprinting? I know the ONS fetches dropped a bit, but they were also more expensive than the ZEN fetches. Basically what I'm saying is I don't want to wait until October to get some Scalding Tarn :(

March 6, 2015 4:12 p.m.

This has got to be one of my favorite MTG days ever. A sexy new Lili, a sweet Sarkhan planeswalker, and now this. Holy crap. Life is good.

March 6, 2015 4:13 p.m.

Life is REALLY good. :)

If I recall correctly, Emrakul and Kozilek have already left Zendikar.

Hopefully, this means that the Battle will focus on Ulamog. Focusing on one Eldrazi will allow for a more in-depth battle... which is good, as it will be a 2-block set.

March 6, 2015 4:26 p.m.

Rayenous Well maybe they'll come back... Probably not, but I seriously want another Emrakul. Emrakul is just too good to ignore.

However, I got the bad feeling that his set will be not so great. The last Zendikar block had so many broken cards (jace, stoneforge, emrakul, fetches) that I feel that Wizards will purposefully make the cards here not so powerful. That would really suck.

Jaathik i believe wotc said that they regret annihilator and wont do it again

March 6, 2015 4:32 p.m.

Rayenous says... #15

@tclaw12

I don't know when/if they will drop before the set release...

All I need are Arid Mesa and Scalding Tarn. - I bought a playlet of Marsh Flats as soon as they were down to $25... That's my purchase price currently... I may bring it down to $20, knowing that they are (almost) definitely being reprinted (relatively) soon.

March 6, 2015 4:32 p.m.

to quote ThatJunkMage, "Hope they pull the old Scars Block trick where the return set is super shit compared to the original set, yet still brimming with playables in all formats." which is hopefully correct. I feel like wizard s will tread lightly around zedikar considering what happened last time it was in standard but hopefully not to lightly.

I ditched all my Zendikar fetches waiting for this to happen. I'm ok with playing w/ sub optimal fetches for a few months until the price tanks and I can score sweet new ones.

From the looks of some of the images that have popped up Gideon will be the lead character of the block battling some massiveness that is Eldrazi.

March 6, 2015 4:50 p.m.

swkelly89 I can understand that, but annihilator was part of what made the Zendikar block so awesome. Taking it out takes out some the flavor of the set. I mean, Zendikar is partially defined as having the single most powerful creature in MTG.

SO MUCH HYPE! I am so excited to be playing during a set that i would have loved to have been a part of while it happened.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today has been great with spoilers. New Lily, kick ass card for Dragons of Tarkir, reprinting of Karn and Goyf, and a return to Zendikar. The hype is strong.

mpeach1 says... #27

I don't know for sure how prevalent the 3 big daddy Eldrazi will be here, because in uncharted realms, Nahiri, Sorin, and Ugin seemed to have kind of locked them down. There was even artwork at the end of the article with the 3 planeswalkers looking over the petrified bodies of the 3 big Eldrazi

March 6, 2015 6:27 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #28

Cheap fetches. Yes please.

March 6, 2015 6:35 p.m.

Thank God for this photo. You know how many times I've heard the word "allegedly" whenever someone brings up the next block being on Zendikar? THE NUMBER OF "ALLEGEDLY"S IS TOO DAMN HIGH!

March 6, 2015 6:37 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #30

I can play Zendikar. I can die happy.

March 6, 2015 7:27 p.m.

-Fulcrum says... #31

@mpeach1: That story was set far, far in the past. That was when they were originally sealed. Jace, Chandra, and Sarkhan unintentionally released them back in ZEN (I think, not too sure on the lore), and that prompted Sorin to look for Ugin to re-seal the Eldrazi. Which leads us to KTK.

March 6, 2015 7:46 p.m.

Jaathik says... #32

FAMOUSWATERMELON Agreed, whereas Annihilator makes your opponent cry (and their tears turn do dust), it makes it all the more challenging to beat back forces of unstoppable might. Maybe they'll have a mechanic called Everlasting -- You cannot sacrifice this permanent. Then put it on mana-producers. What does everyone else think of that?

March 6, 2015 10:34 p.m.

Dalektable says... #33

I am so excited. I also reallyyyyy want full art lands to come along with this set. If it does, I'll certainly buy at least a couple boxes. At the very least I'll pick up enough full art basics to last me an MTG lifetime, haha.

wishes to have a new Nahiri planeswalker card

I ♥ Nahiri~

*wishes to have more stuff to my Kor Legions deck.

That deck is my baby ♥~

March 6, 2015 11:49 p.m.

Jaathik I was actually hoping for something like "when this creature attacks, search your opponents library for x cards and exile them". Like annihilator, but less powerful.

March 6, 2015 11:58 p.m.

Sainted says... #37

FAMOUSWATERMELON that is IMO way more powerful than Annihilator

DrFunk27 says... #38

Thank God I ditched my fetches. Even if they aren't reprinted, everyone will be so worried they will be I can score some Tarns and Misty for cheap.

March 7, 2015 1:09 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #39

Great, now I have to decide whether I want to spend the bulk on my cash on Modern cards now or save it for a box or two of Battle for Zendikar.

If this set disappoints, I will be so sad though.

March 7, 2015 1:42 a.m.

Freeble says... #40

I'm tempted to believe new Gideon is Red/White Kiora is Mono Blue and Ugin is 5 colors?

March 9, 2015 8:51 p.m.

Freeble Here is what I believe the cards will be like:

  • Mono-white Gideon planeswalker card

  • Definitely another Kiora. I hope that she's mono-blue but probably not

  • Mono-blue Jace (another one???) because he helped free the Eldrazi and he's in half the MTG sets anyways

  • Mono-black Ob Nixilis planeswalker (I seriously hope so)

  • MAYBE a Nahiri planeswalker, but apparently she's dead or missing so I don't have too high hopes

  • a vampire tribal theme

  • A new Eldrazi like seen in the illustration with Gideon

  • Ulamog (likely not Emrakul or Kozilek)

  • MAYBE a new Nicol Bolas walker

  • And finally MAYBE an Eldrazi planeswalker (I seriously hope so).

I know that the Eldrazi have been the main antagonists for the past couple blocks, but I seriously hope that they crush everyone else. Emrakul is too badass to be killed.

Also, I know that I mentioned a lot of planeswalkers, but there are so many of them connected with Zendikar...

Wow, I can't believe that it's March and that I'm already making theories for what's coming up. Just shows my hype for this set.

Drathen says... #42

Instead of reprinting Full art lands or Fetches, MTG should bring some novelty, bcuz we don't need those, what we really need is FULL ART FETCHLANDS.

March 10, 2015 12:54 a.m.

-Fulcrum says... #43

Full art ABUR duals.

March 10, 2015 1:39 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #44

Full art fetchlands would become PRICY AS FUCK. Now imagine those, FOILED.

March 10, 2015 1:41 a.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #45

If those happen, I hope I pull one. Otherwise I'll never be able to get one ever.

March 10, 2015 noon

Holy shit holy shit full art fetches would be sexy as fuck. How about just full art lands for everything. Full art temples, full art filters (omg) full art everwhere

March 10, 2015 12:10 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #47

The year is 2078, NM foil non-full art basics are smuggled on the black market. Tcg's price for a 'normal' Foil forest is $6,700.

March 10, 2015 12:13 p.m.

CuteSnail says... #48

Save it! It'll be worth thousands. :D

March 10, 2015 12:25 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #49

Nah, that'll never happen! Best to get rid of it while you can.

March 10, 2015 3:54 p.m.

Okay but to maybe deviate for moment, is Battle for Zendikar actually going to be that hype?

Everybody talks about the lands matter theme, the eldrazi, the Hidden Treasures, about the limited environment, all the format-shaping cards like Goblin Guide, Stoneforge Mystic, Emrakul, Fetchlands, Manlands etc.

But...None of that is actually tied to Zendikar, the cards we want to see again are very likely to not see reprint. Just because we're getting another block set in the world doesn't mean it's going to be the same experience. Like, when people are clamoring for Return to Zendikar is it really Zendikar we care about or is it that we just want another set on the level of quality as Original Zendikar

Tl;Dr I think people assume that a Zendikar set is an automatic seal of quality and are setting themselves up for disappointment by forcing Battle for Zen to live up to the legacy of how we think of Original Zendikar block
