A couple tweaks for elves

Modern Deck Help forum

I'm getting the hang of this elf thing. It's getting easier to pilot but I'm not sure I've made the right decision on a couple card choices.

I have Fauna Shaman in the board right now. Tutors are nice, but I find I rarely bother using the ability when I have a playset of Chord and a playset of Company to get what I need. It might just be that I'm not seeing the situation where I need the shamans.

I also tried Dwynen's Elite for more bodies. That worked ok, and I'm not sure taking them out was the correct decision. It certainly helped with mana production via Heritage Druid and Elvish Archdruid but does not have any additional utility.

The other issue is my sideboard against Affinity. Creeping Corrosion is powerful and I can drop it T3, but with no ability to hit it off Chord or Company it feels like a longshot. Kataki, War's Wage doesn't have that disadvantage but has a much less profound impact. I'm torn on which to include.

Interested to hear thoughts on these card choices!

Dwynens elite should be in. It's 2 mana for 3 power in 2 bodies. Very relevant.

I would also get rid of fauna shaman in place of additional affinity hate

That's certainly the direction I was leaning. I'm not going to mainboard against Affinity though. The question is what to do with the sideboard.

do you absolutely need Rest in Peace?

the best part about kataki is you you're more likely to get it on board. the downside is you just don't blow them out on the spot. if you want to draw sorceries and instants more consistantly then you need to have more of them.

I run into affinity alot in my meta, and i chose to load up on the hate, but I also have cards that are pretty good in other situations. if you want you can check out my elf deck. It's a GB version, but you can get an idea.

In the end, i would encourage you to run kataki, because you are running white already, and you will more consistently have your hate on board.

this is all pertaining to affinity specifically.

Thanks for the advice, I might give it a try. Affinity is a winnable match-up for me but quite a challenging one. Any edge I can get is good.

And yeah, Rest in Peace is pretty important given my meta. There's a lot of people delving, a lot of Goyfs, just generally a lot of things going on that can't if graveyards aren't a thing.

To clarify: I'm not running RiP just to turn Goyfs into 0/1s, that is just a nice side effect of it.
