What Did Ashiok Do on Theros?

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is alluded to in a plethora of different cards. However, as far as I can tell, he never performed any major escapades to influence the main story of the block. What, if anything, did Ashiok do?

Same thing goes for Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage .

Ashiok appears in part two of an Uncharted Realms article (parts 1 & 2). I don't think he really does anything important in the main story though. I don't think Tibalt or Tamiyo were really important either, but there's probably some article with at least a bit of background on them too.

Tamiyo, the Moon Sage was there just to study the very unique moon of Innistrad. tibalt was a native that was torturing locals and when they finally realized what was going on, they were trying to lynch him. He tried to cast a spell to defend himself, it backfired, and he became fused with the devils he was trying to make serve him and all the pain he'd caused to the people. This caused his Spark to awaken and he started planeswalking.

Ashiok is genderless, and seems to enjoy killing people with their own nightmares. It murdered the king of Iretis, and most of the people living in it. That's basically what Ashiok does in those 2 Uncharted Realms articles.

Ashiok is going to appear in a future set or maybe a duel deck, like Vraska. she didn't do vey much, but got her own duel deck.

I guess he was responsible for making Xenagos want to become a God.

Ashiok was the one responsible for the massacre at iretis and planned to cast a spell over all of Theros that would send the world into never-ending slumber so that Ashiok could harvest nightmares forever but was stopped by Dack Fayden

April 23, 2014 4:18 p.m.

GrixisGuybru technically Ashiok hasn't been stopped yet. it's only stated that Dack is the only 'Walker who can stop Ash.

April 24, 2014 11:33 a.m.

Why is Dack the only walker who is capable of stopping him?

Ashiok also wishes to create a god of his own - a god of dark cities and nightmares, Cacophony, a tool of Ashiok's. It's presumably correct to assume that eternal slumber would fall over Theros if Ashiok were to succeed. All of Ashiok's actions have been part of some grander plot. For example, the elimination of the polis Iretis was part of a deal Ashiok struck with Phenax; Phenax wished for another city for the Returned (read: Zombies), and Ashiok wished to be hidden from the gods. It is under the radar, in some realm between thoughts, Nyx, and the mortal realm, that Ashiok is hiding from the Pantheon, manipulating ideas into proto-dieties that would pull all of Theros into an infinite nightmare, feeding Ashiok's power.

For some reason, Dack Fayden is the only one who can stop him. Which, TBH, is where the story becomes really lame. Of course there has to be some plot/challenge that just HAS to fall onto one specific person. Repeat: lame.

GAH, I tried so hard to replace all instances of "him" with "Ashiok," and I failed. Could we all just agree that referring to gender-neutral beings as "him" is ok? It would make things easier. I mean, in most languages, male pronouns take precedence over female ones in ambiguous cases.

@Enlightened_Jedi, Apparently, on Ravnica, Dack stole half of an immensely powerful gauntlet from Sunhome. It began to feed him secrets of some ancient and powerful being, possibly Ashiok, and tempted him to planeswalk to Theros, where the other half of the gauntlet is possibly located as well. Or something like that. It's likely that Dack is simply able to stop Ashiok because he knows more about his powers than any other being in the Multiverse.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is crazy..and sometimes looks male and sometimes female see Nightmarish End but I am excited to see if it gets reprint!

@manofperson and CrazyLittleGuy Wizards has confirmed him as a "him" in multiple cases as well as in the comic series he is also referred to as a "him". I do Realize that in his art work he looks very feminine but once you see the art work of him in the comics you will agree that he is a "he" extremely strong and masculine jaw line, neck and feet.

Technically, Ashiok has no gender, but I believe that we can use masculine pronouns when referring to him.

Hate to necro an old thread but... Ashiok is no defined gender. In the comics other people IN THE COMIC call him male. That doesn't make him male just shows the other characters didn't know or thought he was male.

This link has Doug Beyer offically state you are wrong FaustHarbinger.

All official stories where the narrator talks about Ashiok, they use Ashiok in place of personal pronouns. That being Wizard's choice of what to refer to Ashiok by I'll stick to that.
