Hushbringer Questions

Hey guys so I'm building a new edh deck Bad stuff tribal. Its like gonna be centered around Hushbringer and effects like that, but my question here is more of a general rules question. How does Hushbringer work with cards like Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle and Thing in the Ice  Flip and Jokulmorder? Do they enter tapped, do they enter with the counters, do they autoflip? I'm assuming no, no, and in thing in the ices case once you cast one instant or sorcery it does but I'm just unsure tbh.

For Hushbringer, if the effect doesn’t specifically say “when {this card} enters the battlefield...” it won’t interact with Hushbringer. For Jokulmorder, it’s ETB ability of sacrificing lands will not happen. For Thing in the Ice  Flip, the counters being placed on them are a replacement effect modifying how it enters the battlefield, therefore it’s unaffected. This is the same with Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle.

To summarise what Raging_Squiggle said, there is a difference between "enters the battlefield with" (which is important for a lot of 0/0 creatures with counters) which is a state based effect and "When X enters the battlefield" which is a triggered ability.

But with this strategy you can use some really fun creatures like Eater of Days which have huge draw backs but are hilarious if you negate the etb trigger.

The only problem with this strategy is that you need heaps of redundancy to ensure that you don't just get absolutely blown out by not drawing your etb cancelling effect or having your only copy removed.

Yea I mean definitely not competitive lol but it'll be fun. I put what redundancy I can into it to ensure it works, then flooded with some tutor stuff and a little protection. But I mean its more about the ride with this one. Definitely not gonna be great.

Yeah, i get the fun deck building concepts and play but i have learnt the difference between being fun and janky deck and just playing a miserable deck when you Eater of Days yourself and die without another turn.

Sundial of the Infinite would be worthwhile to help make sure you don’t get screwed out of a game by exiling your library or skipping turns.
